Electrolux Washer Won’t Start — What’s Happening

When an Electrolux washer won’t start, it means the machine is being blocked by a basic interlock, power issue, or internal fault. The machine is not displaying a single error code but is simply unresponsive or won’t begin the selected cycle.

Electrolux explains that the most common reasons include an unclosed door or lid, child lock being active, delayed start accidentally selected, a normal pause stage (between wash and spin or during soak), no water supply, or loss of power from a tripped breaker or loose plug. If you see an E-code on the display, that points to a specific problem like E10 for no water supply.

How to Diagnose and Fix

  1. Confirm the washer is not simply in a normal pause stage between cycles or during a soak program.
  2. Check that the door or lid closes fully with no clothing blocking the latch.
  3. Look for a padlock symbol on the display and disable child lock using the correct button combination for your model.
  4. Verify that delay start is off and that you pressed the start button after making cycle selections.
  5. Confirm the plug is seated tightly in the outlet and that power is present at the outlet (do not use an extension cord).
  6. Check your home’s fuse box or breaker panel and reset or replace the breaker or fuse if needed.
  7. Verify both hot and cold water supply valves are fully open and water pressure is adequate.
  8. If the machine powers on but remains unresponsive, unplug it for 60 seconds to perform a control reset, then plug back in and retest.

Parts You Might Need

PartNotes
Door lock assembly or lid switchAmazon | Required if the washer will not recognize the door or lid as closed after checking for obstructions.
Main control boardAmazon | Needed if diagnostics show an internal fault or persistent error code after basic checks and reset.
User interface control panelAmazon | May be required if the display is unresponsive or buttons do not register after a power reset.
Water inlet valveAmazon | Replace if the machine will not start due to a water supply fault or E10 error code after verifying supply valves are open.

If your appliance also shows a code on the display, these match this problem:

When to Call a Pro

Call a technician if the washer still will not start after you have verified the door closes, child lock is off, power and water supplies are good, and you have performed a control reset. If an E-code appears on the display, a tech can enter the diagnostic mode to read the exact fault and follow the correct repair branch instead of replacing parts by trial. If the door lock assembly or main control board needs replacement, a pro has the tools to test components and install factory parts correctly.
