Electrolux Washer Shaking and Loud — What’s Happening

When an Electrolux washer shakes and makes loud noises during the spin cycle, it’s a vibration problem, not a fault code. The manufacturer treats this as a setup or load issue in most cases. Common triggers include shipping hardware left in place, the washer sitting unlevel or on an unstable floor, unbalanced or overloaded laundry, loose hoses, or foreign objects trapped in the drum or filter.

Electrolux guidance also points to small loads that shift during spin, clothing fasteners clanking against the drum, and worn suspension components as contributing factors. The symptom is mechanical, not electronic, so diagnostics focus on installation, load management, and physical inspection of moving parts.

How to Diagnose and Fix

  1. Confirm whether the washer is newly installed and check the back panel for shipping or transit bolts that lock the drum. Remove all transit hardware and install the supplied plastic caps in the bolt holes.
  2. Place a level on top of the washer front-to-back and side-to-side. Adjust the leveling feet until the machine does not rock and sits firmly on the floor. Leveling legs should extend no more than ½ inch below the washer bottom.
  3. Verify the washer is on a hard, stable surface. If it sits on carpet, vinyl, or a wood subfloor that flexes, move it to a concrete slab or install a solid base platform.
  4. Open the door and redistribute the load. Remove items if overloaded, or add similar garments if the load is too small. Avoid washing single heavy items like rugs or bath mats alone.
  5. Check all pockets and turn clothing with metal fasteners inside out. Remove coins, keys, lighters, and other loose objects before washing.
  6. Inspect the drain filter (usually behind a small access door at the front lower corner). Remove the filter, clean out debris, and check for trapped objects. Look inside the drum holes and around the rubber door seal for lodged items.
  7. Run an empty spin cycle to isolate whether the noise is load-related or machine-related. If shaking persists with no load, the problem is mechanical.
  8. Pull the washer forward and check that inlet and drain hoses are secure and not rubbing the cabinet. If vibration continues, remove the top or rear panel and inspect the suspension rods for cracks, disconnection, or missing hardware.

Parts You Might Need

PartNotes
Suspension rod kitAmazon | Supports the drum assembly. Replace if rods are broken, disconnected, or visibly cracked.
Leveling feetAmazon | Adjustable legs that stabilize the washer. Replace if threads are stripped or the foot is damaged.
Drain filterAmazon | Traps lint and foreign objects. Replace if the housing is cracked or the filter does not seat properly.

If your appliance also shows a code on the display, these match this problem:

When to Call a Pro

Call a technician if the washer still shakes violently after you have removed transit bolts, leveled the machine, checked the load, and cleared foreign objects. Suspension system repairs require disassembly and access to internal frame mounts. If you hear grinding, scraping, or metal-on-metal contact even with an empty drum, or if the drum visibly tilts or drops to one side, stop using the washer and get professional help to avoid damaging the cabinet, motor, or bearings.
