⚡ Quick Answer

Usually caused by a failed water inlet valve that won't shut off. Unplug and close water supply, then replace the inlet valve assembly.

Samsung Washer Overflowing — What’s Happening

A Samsung washer overflow fault means the machine has detected more water than expected for the selected cycle. On models showing OE, OF, OC, or 1OC, the level sensor signals excess water and the washer stops washing and starts draining to correct the condition.

The machine may actually be overfilled with water, it may be failing to drain properly and holding too much water from the previous cycle, or the level sensor may be misreading the water volume even though fill and drain are working correctly. Samsung’s overflow detection relies on a level sensor that monitors water in the tub and activates the pump to drain when it detects too much.

How to Diagnose and Fix

  1. Verify the symptom by determining whether the machine is truly overfilled, not draining properly, or filling when idle or powered off.
  2. Check that the washer is level and the drain hose is installed correctly, not kinked, and positioned at the proper height to prevent backflow.
  3. Inspect detergent usage and confirm you are not filling dispensers above the max-line marking.
  4. Clean the drain filter on front-load models and check for blockages in the drain hose, then retest a cycle.
  5. If the washer fills when off or overfills during the fill cycle, unplug the machine and shut off the water supply, then observe whether water still enters with power removed.
  6. Run the washer’s service diagnostics mode to command individual inlet valves on and off and verify whether they shut off properly when de-energized.
  7. If the washer misreads water level but fill and drain work correctly, inspect the pressure hose and sensor connection for blockage, kinks, or disconnection.
  8. Replace the water inlet valve assembly if a valve remains open or leaks through when shut off, or replace the pressure switch if the machine falsely detects overflow after confirming proper drain and hose condition.

Parts You Might Need

PartNotes
Water inlet valve assemblyAmazon | Replace when the washer fills while off or a valve won’t close
Pressure switch / water level sensorAmazon | Replace when the washer falsely reports overflow but fill and drain work properly
Drain pumpAmazon | Replace if clogged or failing and causing poor draining on front-load units

If your appliance also shows a code on the display, these match this problem:

When to Call a Pro

Call a pro if you are not comfortable unplugging the washer and testing whether water enters with power removed, or if you are unsure how to access and replace the inlet valve or pressure switch. A technician can run Samsung’s service diagnostics to isolate valve and sensor faults and has the tools to safely verify whether components are functioning correctly. If the washer continues to overflow after you have checked the drain hose, cleaned the filter, and verified detergent use, professional diagnosis will save time and prevent unnecessary part replacement.
