Samsung Washer Not Dispensing Detergent — What’s Happening

A Samsung washer that is not dispensing detergent is showing a dispenser-system symptom, not a single fault code. On standard front-load models, this means the washer is not flushing detergent out of the compartment into the tub, typically because water cannot properly enter or move through the dispenser path, or the detergent or additive is too thick or overfilled. On models with Auto Dispense, detergent may not release unless Dose per Wash is turned on and the dose is set correctly.

This is usually not a catastrophic hardware failure. Most often, residue buildup, incorrect settings, or the wrong detergent type is preventing the dispenser from working. Samsung’s own guidance points first to settings, detergent condition, leveling, and residue buildup rather than internal component failure.

How to Diagnose and Fix

  1. Verify the model and dispenser type (standard drawer or Auto Dispense) because the diagnostic checks differ.
  2. Check customer setup first: confirm detergent, bleach, and softener are not above the MAX line, are the correct HE type, and are not too thick or expired.
  3. On Auto Dispense models, confirm that Dose per Wash is enabled in settings and the dosage is not set too low.
  4. Remove the detergent drawer completely, separate all compartments and siphon inserts, and clean the drawer, siphon passages, and the drawer opening in the machine with warm water and a brush, then dry and reinstall.
  5. Run a rinse and spin or empty cycle to flush residue from the internal siphon tubes and dispenser passages.
  6. Check that the washer is level front-to-back and side-to-side, adjusting the leveling feet as needed.
  7. Verify adequate household water pressure and confirm that the water inlet valve is supplying water to the dispenser by observing water flow into the drawer during a cycle start.
  8. If the fault persists after cleaning and water-supply checks, inspect the dispenser drawer assembly, siphon tubes, internal hoses, and water inlet valve solenoids for restriction, cracks, or electrical failure, and replace defective components.

Parts You Might Need

PartNotes
Detergent drawer assemblyAmazon | Includes the main drawer body and compartments for detergent, bleach, and softener.
Siphon tubes or siphon insertsAmazon | Small plastic inserts inside the drawer compartments, especially for fabric softener, that create siphoning action.
Water inlet valve assemblyAmazon | Controls water flow to the dispenser; includes solenoid coils that open and close water paths.

If your appliance also shows a code on the display, these match this problem:

When to Call a Pro

Call a pro if thorough cleaning of the drawer and housing, correct detergent setup, leveling, and water-supply verification do not restore dispensing. A technician can test the water inlet valve solenoids, check internal hoses and the dispenser housing for cracks or obstructions, and replace the drawer assembly or inlet valve if defective. If your model has Auto Dispense and the reservoir or internal metering hardware has failed, a pro can diagnose the control board signals and replace the Auto Dispense components safely.
