Samsung Washer bC1 Error Code - Causes & Fix

3 min read

What this code means

The bC1 code on a Samsung washer signals a button-input fault. The control board is detecting that a button, most commonly the Power button, is being held down continuously or is physically stuck in the pressed position. Samsung groups this code with other button-input errors (bE1, 12E) in their service documentation. The washer cannot proceed with a cycle because it reads a constant key-press signal.

This is not a water-level, drain, or leak code. It points directly to the user-interface panel or the keypad circuit. The code can appear if a button was pressed and held too long during startup, if detergent residue or moisture has seeped into the button assembly, or if the button PCB itself has failed and is sending a continuous closed-circuit signal to the main control.

Before You Replace Anything

Many owners replace the main control board when the real problem is a sticky keypad or a failed user-interface board. Before ordering any board, clean the buttons, power-cycle the machine, and inspect the button PCB for visible damage or corrosion.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Unplug the washer from the wall outlet and wait 30 to 60 seconds to clear any residual charge and reset the control board.
  2. Press each button on the control panel to confirm that every key clicks and returns freely without sticking.
  3. Clean the keypad area with a lightly dampened (not wet) cloth to remove detergent buildup or moisture around the buttons, then dry thoroughly.
  4. Plug the washer back in and press Power to see if the bC1 code reappears.
  5. Remove the top panel (typically two or three screws at the rear) to access the user-interface board and inspect the button PCB for visible corrosion, moisture, or damaged solder joints.
  6. Check the wiring harness between the UI board and the main control board for loose or corroded pins, and reseat the connector if needed.
  7. Replace the user-interface board or button assembly if the code persists after cleaning and inspection, as the button circuit is reading continuously closed.

Parts Often Needed

When to Call a Pro

Call a technician if you are uncomfortable removing the top panel or working with control-board connectors, if you cannot locate the user-interface board for your model, or if the code returns after you have replaced the UI board and verified all harness connections. A pro can test the key-input circuits with a multimeter and determine whether the main control board (rather than the button assembly) is misreading the signal. Also call if the washer shows multiple unrelated error codes, which may indicate a broader control-board failure or a power-supply problem that requires diagnostic equipment.
