Samsung Washer bC1 Error Code - Causes & Fix

⚡ Quick Answer

bC1 means a button or control-interface fault. Most often a stuck power button or loose console connector. Power-cycle first.

Samsung Washer bC1 Error Code — What It Means

The bC1 code (sometimes shown as 8C1 on related models) indicates a button or communications fault in the control interface. The washer is detecting a problem with the power or start button circuit, the touch-key assembly, or the wiring between the user interface and the main control board. Samsung’s public error-code tables do not define bC1 in detail, but service reports and user discussion consistently link it to stuck, shorted, or failed button inputs rather than water, drain, or motor faults.

This is an electrical control issue, not a mechanical one. The fault can live on the button board itself, in the harness connectors, or on the main control board that reads the key signals.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Unplug the washer and wait at least 60 seconds to clear transient faults, then restore power and check if the code returns.
  2. Inspect the button area on the control panel for any stuck, depressed, or wet keys, and gently press each button to confirm smooth travel and release.
  3. Remove the top panel and console according to your model’s service procedure (typically a few screws at the rear and clips at the front) to access the user-interface board and harness connectors.
  4. Reseat every connector between the UI board and the main control board, checking for bent pins, corrosion, or moisture, and confirm each plug locks securely.
  5. Disconnect the UI board entirely and power the washer to see if the code clears, which isolates the fault to the button assembly rather than the main board.
  6. Replace the user-interface panel or button PCB if the code disappears when disconnected or if visible damage is present, then reassemble and test a full cycle.
  7. Replace the main control board if the code persists with a known-good UI assembly connected, and verify all harness routing and grounds are correct before closing the panels.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
User-interface control panel or touch-key assemblyAmazon | Match your exact model number. Some panels include the button PCB and display as a single assembly.
Main control board (inverter PCB or main PCB)Amazon | Required if the fault remains after UI replacement. Verify model and revision before ordering.
Wiring harness or connector set (console to main board)Amazon | Needed only if pins are broken or the harness jacket is cut. Inspect connectors first before replacing wire.

When to Call a Pro

Call a qualified appliance technician if the code returns after a power reset and you are not comfortable removing the console and working with live control boards. Board-level diagnosis requires safe disassembly, connector testing, and sometimes signal tracing with a multimeter. If your washer is still under warranty, contact Samsung or an authorized service center before opening panels. Professionals carry the correct replacement boards and can confirm the fault path quickly, avoiding unnecessary part swaps.
