Samsung Oven Spark Module Replacement - Signs & How-To

3 min read
⚡ Quick Answer

If your Samsung gas range won't light or sparks inconsistently, the spark module (DG96-00297A) may have failed. Replacing the module or its igniter restores reliable ignition.

Samsung Oven Spark Module Replacement — What This Part Does

The Samsung spark module (also called the ignition module) is the control box that sends high-voltage spark to one or more burner igniters so gas can light. It sits behind the range and connects to each burner’s igniter electrode via individual wire harnesses. When the module sends power, the electrode at each burner tip arcs and ignites the gas.

The module fails from age, moisture intrusion, or repeated electrical cycling. Loose or corroded wire connections between the module and igniters, or a dirty or mispositioned electrode tip, can also prevent spark even when the module itself is good. Because burner igniters and wiring are part of the same chain, technicians test connections and electrodes first before replacing the module.

Signs It Needs Replacing

How to Replace It

  1. Unplug the range from the wall outlet or switch off the dedicated circuit breaker at the panel, and turn off the gas supply valve to the appliance.
  2. Pull the range forward from the wall and remove the rear lower access panel (typically two or three screws).
  3. Locate the spark module, a small rectangular box with multiple wire connectors plugged into it.
  4. Photograph or label each wire connector before removal, then pull each connector straight off the module terminals.
  5. Remove the mounting screws holding the module to the range frame and lift the old module out.
  6. Position the new spark module in the same mounting holes and secure it with the original screws.
  7. Plug each wire connector back onto the new module in the exact order and orientation shown in your photo or labels.
  8. Reattach the rear access panel, restore gas and power, and test each burner by turning the knob to ignite.
  9. If a single burner still won’t light, remove that burner cap and head, pull the electrode out, clean the metal tip with fine sandpaper, and reposition it so the tip sits 1/8 to 3/16 inch from the burner head before retesting.

When to Call a Pro

If you are not comfortable disconnecting and reconnecting multiple wire harnesses, or if you smell gas at any point during the repair, call a qualified appliance technician. Gas appliance ignition work involves live high-voltage spark circuits and combustible fuel. If replacing the module and cleaning the electrodes does not restore spark, the problem may be in the range’s wiring harness, a failed igniter switch, or burner assembly alignment, all of which require professional diagnosis and gas-safe repair practices. For gas line, burner, or igniter work, or if you ever smell gas, stop and call a licensed technician.
