Samsung Oven E-27 Error Code - Causes & Fix

3 min read

What this code means

The E-27 error code on a Samsung oven signals a temperature sensor circuit fault. The control board has detected an open circuit in the oven temperature sensor (thermistor) or its wiring, meaning the sensor is not sending a valid resistance signal back to the control. This prevents the oven from accurately measuring cavity temperature and will usually lock out heating functions until the fault is cleared.

In most cases the sensor itself has failed open, though damaged or loose wiring between the sensor probe and the control board can also trigger the code. A working oven temperature sensor should measure about 1080 Ω resistance at room temperature. If resistance is far outside that value, drifts wildly, or reads infinite (open), the sensor needs replacement. The control board itself can fail and misread a good sensor circuit, but this is much less common than sensor or harness faults.

Before You Replace Anything

Many people replace the main control board first when they see E-27, wasting hundreds of dollars. Always measure the sensor resistance at the sensor leads with a multimeter (target about 1080 Ω at room temp) and inspect the harness before assuming a board fault.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Disconnect all power at the circuit breaker or unplug the range to prevent shock during service work.
  2. Locate the oven temperature sensor by opening the oven door and finding the thin metal probe protruding into the rear or side wall of the cavity, or access it from the back panel of the range.
  3. Unplug the sensor harness connector from the back of the oven or control board area, then measure resistance across the two sensor terminals with a multimeter set to ohms.
  4. Compare the reading to 1080 Ω at room temperature. If the reading is infinite (open), near zero (shorted), or wildly unstable, replace the sensor.
  5. Inspect the wiring harness and connector for chewed insulation, pinched wires, corrosion, or loose pins. Repair or replace the harness if damage is found.
  6. Install the new sensor if resistance was out of range, reconnect the harness, restore power, and run a test bake cycle to verify the E-27 code clears.
  7. If the code persists after confirming the sensor reads 1080 Ω and the harness has good continuity, replace the main electronic control board or call a qualified technician.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
Samsung oven temperature sensor (thermistor)Amazon | Match your model number. The probe should measure about 1080 Ω at room temp. OEM or quality aftermarket are both acceptable.
Oven sensor wiring harnessAmazon | Only needed if the original harness is chewed, burned, or has damaged connector pins. Confirm plug type and wire length for your model.
Electronic control board (main control)Amazon | Required only if the sensor and harness both test good but E-27 remains. Verify your model number and software version before ordering.

When to Call a Pro

Call a professional if you are uncomfortable working inside the range cabinet, if the sensor is in a hard-to-reach location behind insulation or sheet metal, or if you have replaced the sensor and harness but the E-27 code returns. Also call a pro if the oven requires built-in cabinet removal, if the wiring diagram shows control-board-level diagnostics beyond basic resistance checks, or if you see evidence of arcing, melted connectors, or other electrical damage that suggests a larger fault. Technicians have model-specific service manuals, can source OEM control boards quickly, and carry the tools to safely test high-voltage circuits while the unit is powered.
