Samsung Gas Oven Igniter Replacement - Signs & How-To

⚡ Quick Answer

A weak or failed igniter causes no heat, slow heat, or glowing with no flame. Replacing the bake or broil igniter restores normal lighting.

Samsung Gas Oven Igniter Replacement — What This Part Does

The oven igniter is a hot-surface element that heats up when you set the oven to bake or broil. As it glows, it draws enough current to open the gas safety valve so the burner can light. Samsung gas ranges use separate igniters for the bake burner (lower cavity) and the broil burner (upper cavity), and either one can fail independently.

Igniters fail when the ceramic element degrades over time and can no longer draw the required current. A weak igniter may still glow orange or white but never pulls enough amperage to signal the gas valve to open. Eventually the element cracks internally or burns out completely, leaving you with an oven that won’t heat at all.

Signs It Needs Replacing

How to Replace It

  1. Unplug the range from the wall outlet or shut off the circuit breaker, and turn off the gas supply valve to the appliance.
  2. Remove the oven racks and locate the screws holding the oven floor plate or burner cover in place, then lift out the floor plate to expose the burner tube and igniter assembly.
  3. Remove any flame diverter shields or burner baffles by taking out the screws or clips that secure them over the burner tube.
  4. Disconnect the wire harness from the igniter by pulling the connector straight off the terminals, and inspect the connector and wires for burn marks or damage.
  5. Unscrew the mounting bracket that holds the igniter to the burner tube or oven floor (typically one or two screws), and slide the old igniter out of its bracket.
  6. Test the old igniter with a multimeter set to resistance: a good Samsung igniter reads around 100 to 130 ohms, and an open or infinite reading confirms the igniter is bad.
  7. Position the new igniter in the mounting bracket so the element tip sits in the correct location near the burner ports, then tighten the mounting screws snugly without over-torquing.
  8. Reconnect the wire harness to the new igniter, making sure the connector clicks or seats fully, and route the wires so they do not touch the burner tube or any sharp edges.
  9. Reinstall the flame diverter, burner shields, and oven floor plate in reverse order, replace the racks, restore gas and electrical power, and run a bake or broil cycle to verify the burner lights within 60 to 90 seconds.

The Part You Need

PartNotes
Samsung gas oven bake igniter or broil igniterAmazon | Bake and broil igniters are separate parts with different part numbers. Find your exact model and serial number on the rating plate inside the oven door or on the frame behind the storage drawer, then cross-reference the igniter part number for your specific burner (bake or broil) in the Samsung parts diagram or with your parts supplier. Flat and round igniters are not interchangeable.

When to Call a Pro

Gas appliance work carries risk of gas leaks, fire, and carbon monoxide exposure. If you are not comfortable working around gas lines, shutting off gas supply, or testing electrical circuits with a multimeter, call a qualified appliance technician. A pro can also diagnose upstream failures like a bad gas valve, faulty oven control board, or wiring problems that mimic igniter symptoms. If you replace the igniter and the oven still does not light, or if you smell gas at any point during the repair, stop work immediately, ventilate the area, and call for professional service. For gas line, burner, or igniter work, or if you ever smell gas, stop and call a licensed technician.
