Frymaster Commercial Fryer Error Codes — What They Mean
Frymaster (a Welbilt brand) manufactures commercial deep fryers for quick-service restaurants, fast food chains, and high-volume foodservice operations. The M2000 and MJ Series controllers display alphanumeric fault codes.
| Code | Meaning | Urgency |
|---|---|---|
| F1 | High temperature limit exceeded | Critical |
| F2 | Temperature sensor fault | High |
| F3 | Ignition failure | High |
| F4 | High-limit thermostat tripped | Critical |
| F7 | Setpoint temperature not reached | Medium |
| F9 | Drain valve fault | Medium |
Most Common Frymaster Fault Codes and Fixes {#fix}
F1 / F4 — High Temperature / High Limit
Oil temperature exceeded 410°F (F1) or the high-limit safety device tripped (F4). Immediate shutdown. Check: thermostat calibration, gas valve not stuck open, heat exchanger scale buildup. F4 requires manual high-limit reset after the fryer cools.
F2 — Temperature Sensor
The cavity temperature probe has failed. Test probe resistance (typically 1kΩ RTD at 32°F). Replace if out of spec.
F3 — Ignition Failure
No flame established during ignition trial. Check gas supply pressure (typically 3.5-5” WC natural gas), pilot flame if applicable, igniter spark, and gas valve operation.
F7 — Setpoint Not Reached
Fryer can’t reach the set oil temperature. Check burner operation, gas pressure, and heat exchanger cleanliness. A scaled heat exchanger dramatically reduces heating efficiency.
Parts Often Needed
| Part | Notes |
|---|---|
| Temperature probe (RTD) | Amazon | Replace if F2 — Frymaster OEM part |
| High-limit thermostat | Amazon | Replace after F4 trip if it won’t reset |
| Igniter assembly | Amazon | For F3 — check spark electrode condition |
When to Call a Pro
Gas valve, high-limit thermostat, and heat exchanger work requires a certified commercial kitchen equipment technician. Never operate after F1/F4 without identifying the root cause.
