Manitowoc ice machines (Indigo Series, NEO, S-Series, and older Harmony models) use LED blink codes, digital displays, or the Manitowoc Display Module (MDM) to indicate faults. This guide covers all major error codes.

Most Common Faults
E-02 / 2 Blinks — Freeze Cycle Too Long
The ice formation cycle exceeded the maximum time limit. This is the most common Manitowoc fault and points to: dirty condenser coils (air-cooled), high entering water temperature, low refrigerant charge, or scale buildup on the evaporator. Start by cleaning the condenser. If condenser is clean, check subcooling and superheat.
E-03 / 3 Blinks — Harvest Cycle Too Long
Harvest is taking too long. The ice slab is not releasing from the evaporator within the time limit. Check: harvest heater operation, water inlet temperature (warm water helps harvest), water distribution over evaporator, and ice thickness setting.
E-05 / 5 Blinks — Water Curtain Fault
The water curtain (the plastic flap that prevents ice from sliding into the bin during harvest) is not triggering the curtain switch at the correct time. Check:
- Curtain moves freely — not stuck or kinked
- Curtain switch actuator and switch itself — should click when curtain swings
- Control board connection to curtain switch
