Frigidaire Oven Surface Burner Receptacle Replacement — What This Part Does

The surface burner receptacle (also called a terminal block or coil element receptacle) is the plug-in socket where your coil surface element’s metal terminals mate with the range wiring. It carries full burner current and holds the element securely in place. Over time, loose contact between the element prongs and receptacle terminals creates resistance heating that carbonizes the plastic housing, melts the metal contacts, and damages the wiring. Once the connection overheats, the receptacle can no longer deliver power reliably and becomes a fire hazard.

Most receptacle failures start with a surface element that wasn’t fully seated or had pitted terminals. That poor contact generates heat, which softens the receptacle plastic and burns the wires back toward the range harness. If you catch it early, you cut back to clean copper and swap in a new receptacle block with fresh terminals and bracket hardware. If the element terminals are also damaged, you replace both the receptacle and the element together to prevent the cycle from repeating.

Signs It Needs Replacing

How to Replace It

  1. Disconnect power at the circuit breaker or unplug the range completely.
  2. Remove the surface element by lifting it out of its receptacle, then take out the drip pan or bowl underneath.
  3. Lift the cooktop by raising the front edge and prop it up with the built-in support rods to expose the underside.
  4. Inspect the receptacle block, terminals, element prongs, and attached wires for burning, pitting, melting, or discoloration.
  5. Cut the old receptacle wiring back to clean, undamaged copper on both leads, then strip about half an inch of insulation from each wire.
  6. Select the correct mounting bracket from the replacement kit to match your original receptacle style, then attach the new receptacle block to the bracket.
  7. Connect the range wires to the new receptacle leads using the supplied wire nuts or crimp connectors, then slide heat-shrink tubing over each joint and apply heat to seal.
  8. Mount the new receptacle assembly in the original location, secure the bracket hardware, and lower the cooktop back into place.
  9. Reinstall the drip pan and plug in the surface element, making sure the terminals are not damaged and the element seats fully in the receptacle.
  10. Restore power at the breaker and test the burner on a low setting to confirm even heating without arcing.

The Part You Need

Surface burner terminal block kitAmazon | Common Frigidaire part numbers include 5303935058 and 5304409888. Check the model and serial plate inside the oven door or on the frame behind the storage drawer to find your exact replacement kit, which typically includes the receptacle block, mounting brackets, wire nuts, and heat-shrink tubing.
Coil surface element (if terminals are damaged)Amazon | If the element prongs are pitted, melted, or corroded, replace the element at the same time to prevent the new receptacle from failing. Match the wattage and diameter (6-inch or 8-inch) to your original burner.

When to Call a Pro

Call a technician if you are uncomfortable working with 240-volt wiring, if the damage extends beyond the receptacle into the range harness or infinite-switch wiring, or if you see repeated receptacle failures on multiple burners (which may indicate a deeper electrical issue). Also call for help if the cooktop lift mechanism is broken or if you cannot safely prop the top open to access the underside. A qualified appliance tech can trace the circuit, verify the infinite switch and wiring integrity, and make sure the replacement receptacle is installed with proper clearances and secure connections. For gas line, burner, or igniter work, or if you ever smell gas, stop and call a licensed technician.
