Frigidaire Oven F2 Error Code — What It Means
F2 means the control saw an oven temperature that is too hot, often during bake or self-clean. The reading is outside the safe window the control expects.
Most of the time the RTD temperature sensor has drifted high or shorted, so the control thinks the cavity is hotter than it is. A stuck bake relay on the control can also push real temperature too high.
Common Causes
- Failed RTD temperature sensor A sensor reading above about 1100 ohms tells the control the oven is overheating.
- Damaged sensor wiring A pinched, burnt, or grounded sensor wire skews the resistance the control reads.
- Stuck bake relay A welded relay on the control board keeps the element powered and drives real temperature too high.
- Loose sensor harness connector A poor connection at the sensor plug gives the control an unstable reading.
- Self-clean overheat A worn sensor often trips F2 during the high heat of a clean cycle.
Step-by-Step Fix
- Cut power at the breaker for 30 seconds, restore it, and see if F2 returns on the next cook.
- Pull the range out and remove the rear panel to reach the sensor harness plug.
- Unplug the RTD sensor and measure resistance with a multimeter at room temperature.
- Compare the reading to about 1080 ohms at 70 to 75 degrees. A high or open reading means the sensor is bad.
- Inspect the sensor wires for burns or a short to the metal cabinet and repair any damage.
- Replace the RTD temperature sensor if it is out of spec.
- Replace the electronic oven control if the sensor tests good but the oven still overheats from a stuck relay.
Parts Often Needed
| Part | Notes |
|---|---|
| Frigidaire oven temperature sensor RTD probe | Amazon | Confirm fitment by model number, most read near 1080 ohms at room temp. |
| Sensor wire harness | Amazon | Needed only if the probe wiring is burnt or grounded. |
| Frigidaire electronic oven control board EOC | Amazon | Order if a stuck bake relay is causing real over-temperature. |
When to Call a Pro
If the sensor tests good and the oven still climbs past the setpoint, the control has a stuck relay and the oven can be a fire risk. Shut the breaker off and book a technician.
