Frigidaire Oven Convection Fan Motor Replacement — What This Part Does

The convection fan motor drives the blower that circulates hot air during convection cooking. When you select a convection mode, the motor spins a fan blade inside the rear oven cavity to move heated air around your food for faster, more even baking and roasting.

Motors fail from bearing wear, overheating, or electrical faults. The main control board may also stop sending power to the motor, and wiring or connector problems between the board and motor are common misdiagnosis risks. A seized blade, damaged fan, or any restriction blocking rotation can also prevent the motor from running.

Signs It Needs Replacing

How to Replace It

  1. Unplug the range or shut off the circuit breaker, then turn off the gas supply valve if your model is dual-fuel or gas.
  2. Pull the range away from the wall so you can access the lower rear panel.
  3. Remove oven racks and open the oven door, then lift the door off its hinges if access to the convection cover is tight.
  4. Remove the screws securing the convection fan cover inside the rear oven cavity and lift the cover out.
  5. Turn the fan blade retaining nut clockwise to loosen it (reverse thread), slide the nut and blade off the motor shaft, and set them aside.
  6. Remove the lower rear access panel from the back of the range, then locate the convection motor mounted behind the oven cavity.
  7. Disconnect the wire harness from the motor, remove the three mounting screws holding the motor to the bracket, and pull the old motor out.
  8. Check the wiring diagram and verify all connectors are clean and tight before installing the new motor.
  9. Mount the new motor with the three screws, reconnect the wire harness, reinstall the fan blade and nut (turn counterclockwise to tighten), replace the convection cover, rear panel, oven door, and racks, then restore power and test convection mode.

When to Call a Pro

If you confirm the motor receives the correct supply voltage but still will not run, or if you are not comfortable working with live 240-volt wiring to diagnose power delivery from the control board, call a qualified appliance technician. The main control board is often misdiagnosed when the real fault is a wiring or connector issue, so a pro with a schematic and multimeter can save you the cost of an unnecessary board replacement. On gas or dual-fuel ranges, any work involving burner ignition, gas valves, or flame sensing is best left to a licensed technician. For gas line, burner, or igniter work, or if you ever smell gas, stop and call a licensed technician.
