⚡ Quick Answer

Most often caused by a blocked drain pump or kinked drain hose. Clean the pump filter and check the hose for kinks or clogs first.

Bosch Washer Stops Mid Cycle — What’s Happening

Bosch front-load washers use sensor-based cycle control to monitor water level, drum speed, door lock status, temperature, and drain performance. The cycle will pause or abort if any monitored value falls outside tolerance. This symptom is not one single fault code. The exact cause depends on which stage the machine aborts in and what code (if any) appears on the display.

Bosch’s own support guidance ties mid-cycle stoppage to specific messages such as drain problems, inlet or water supply problems, and general faults that require reset or service. The control board stops the cycle when it detects a problem, so identifying the displayed code or the stage where the cycle fails is the first step in diagnosis.

How to Diagnose and Fix

  1. Note the exact fault code or message on the display and write it down. If no code appears, note which stage (fill, wash, drain, spin) the cycle stops in.
  2. Perform a power reset by turning the washer off, unplugging it for at least one minute, then plugging it back in and restarting the cycle to clear temporary faults.
  3. Check the drain side by opening the service flap (usually lower front), draining residual water into a shallow pan, unscrewing and cleaning the pump filter, and inspecting the pump impeller for free rotation.
  4. Inspect the drain hose for kinks, blockages, or incorrect installation height, and verify the standpipe or drain connection is not clogged.
  5. Check the water supply by confirming the inlet tap is fully open, removing and cleaning the inlet hose filters at both the tap and machine connections, and testing flow (approximately 2.5 gallons per minute should flow from a fully open tap).
  6. Check the door lock by opening and closing the door firmly, inspecting the latch for damage, and listening for the lock click when you start a cycle.
  7. Check for oversuds by opening the door and looking for excess foam in the drum. If present, run a rinse-and-spin cycle without detergent and reduce detergent for future loads.
  8. If the washer still stops mid-cycle after these checks, test the pressure sensor, NTC temperature sensor, heating element circuit, and main control board according to the stage where the failure occurs.

Parts You Might Need

PartNotes
Drain pump and filter assemblyAmazon | Replace if the impeller is jammed, cracked, or the pump does not run.
Door lock assemblyAmazon | Replace if the door will not lock or the lock does not click and hold.
Pressure sensor (water-level sensor)Amazon | Replace if water-level faults persist after cleaning the air trap and hose.
NTC temperature sensor or heating elementAmazon | Replace if the cycle stops waiting for heat and the element or sensor tests faulty.

If your appliance also shows a code on the display, these match this problem:

When to Call a Pro

Call a pro if the washer still stops mid-cycle after you have cleaned the pump filter, checked the drain and supply hoses, and performed a power reset. Sensor faults (pressure, temperature, or door lock), control board issues, and motor inverter problems require diagnostic tools and part-specific testing. If a persistent fault code appears that you cannot clear, or if the machine stops at random stages with no pattern, professional diagnosis will save time and prevent incorrect part replacement.
