Frigidaire Washer Shaking and Loud — What’s Happening

A Frigidaire washer that shakes and makes loud noise is not showing a fault code. It is a symptom of an off-balance load, poor leveling or installation, or a worn suspension component. Frigidaire owner support lists load balance, leveling, floor support, and missing shipping materials as the first checks for vibration.

Loud banging, thumping, or clanking during operation usually points to off-balance laundry, objects in the drum, or loose items on clothing. If the noise persists with an empty load, the washer itself is the likely source.

How to Diagnose and Fix

  1. Run the washer empty or with a known balanced load to verify whether the noise is load-related or mechanical.
  2. Check that the washer is level front-to-back and side-to-side using a bubble level on top of the cabinet.
  3. Adjust each leveling leg so the washer sits firmly on the floor with no rocking, and confirm legs extend no more than 1/2 inch below the washer bottom.
  4. Tighten the lock nuts on each leveling leg after adjustment to prevent the legs from vibrating loose.
  5. Confirm the washer is on a hard, level floor and that all shipping bolts, foam, and cardboard have been removed.
  6. Redistribute the laundry if uneven, remove any objects from the drum, and check clothing pockets for coins or fasteners.
  7. If vibration persists with correct leveling and balanced load, inspect suspension shocks (top-load) or drum support springs (front-load) for wear, cracks, or detachment.
  8. Test after any repair by running a spin cycle and observing for cabinet movement, noise, or drum strike against the tub.

Parts You Might Need

PartNotes
Suspension shocksAmazon | Common on top-load models; replace in pairs or as a set if worn or leaking.
Drum support springsAmazon | Suspend the drum; replace if broken, stretched, or detached.
Leveling legs with lock nutsAmazon | Replace if threads are stripped or legs will not stay tight.

If your appliance also shows a code on the display, these match this problem:

When to Call a Pro

Call a technician if the washer still shakes and bangs after you have leveled it, redistributed the load, and confirmed the floor is solid. Suspension shock and spring replacement requires disassembly of the cabinet and drum support system, and mishandling the tub or suspension can cause further damage or injury. A qualified appliance tech can inspect the suspension components, test for drum strike, and replace worn parts safely.
