⚡ Quick Answer

Usually a door switch fault or broken drive belt. Check that the door latches fully, test the switch for continuity, and inspect the belt.

Frigidaire Dryer Won’t Tumble — What’s Happening

A Frigidaire dryer that won’t tumble is typically either a mechanical drive problem or an interlock issue. If the display shows “dr,” the dryer thinks the door is open and will not start the drum. The control sees no valid closed-door signal, so it blocks operation. If there is no code and the drum simply does not turn, the issue is more often a broken drive belt, seized idler pulley, worn drum rollers, failed motor, open thermal fuse or limiter, or a power supply fault.

Most no-tumble calls trace back to a door that isn’t fully latched, a failed door switch, or a snapped belt. Less often the control board itself loses the door circuit even when the switch is good. Overheating can also trip a thermal limiter on the motor and stop rotation until the part cools or is replaced.

How to Diagnose and Fix

  1. Verify whether the display shows “dr” or if the dryer is silent with no code, since the two paths differ.
  2. Check that the door closes firmly and the latch engages fully with no visible misalignment.
  3. Unplug the dryer and test the door switch with a meter for continuity between COM and NO terminals with the door closed (a good switch will read about 0.1 ohms closed and OL when open or bad).
  4. Inspect the wiring from the door switch to the control board for breaks or loose connectors if the switch tests good but “dr” remains.
  5. If there is no door code and the drum will not rotate, remove the front or top panel and check the drive belt for breakage or slipping off the pulleys.
  6. Spin the idler pulley by hand and roll each drum roller to confirm they turn freely without roughness, flat spots, or seizure.
  7. Test the thermal fuse and any thermal limiter on the motor or blower housing for continuity and replace any that are open.
  8. Check that the exhaust duct and vent hood are clean and not blocked, since restricted airflow can overheat components and trigger shutdowns.

Parts You Might Need

PartNotes
Frigidaire dryer door switchAmazon | Should show continuity (about 0.1 ohms) when closed and open-line when released.
Frigidaire dryer drive beltAmazon | Connects motor pulley to drum; inspect for cracks, glazing, or breakage.
Frigidaire dryer idler pulley assemblyAmazon | Tensions the belt; replace if it binds, wobbles, or the bearing is rough.
Frigidaire dryer electronic control boardAmazon | Replace only after confirming door switch and wiring are good but “dr” persists.

If your appliance also shows a code on the display, these match this problem:

When to Call a Pro

Call a technician if you are not comfortable working inside the cabinet or testing live voltage. A qualified electrician should verify that electric models receive the correct 240 V supply at the outlet. If you have replaced the door switch and checked wiring but the “dr” code remains, control-board diagnosis and replacement are best handled by a service pro. Any motor or thermal-limiter work also benefits from professional tools and experience to avoid repeat failures.
