Frigidaire Dryer Stops Mid Cycle - Causes & Fix

⚡ Quick Answer

A Frigidaire dryer stopping mid-cycle is usually caused by restricted airflow or lint buildup triggering overheat protection. Clean the vent and lint path first.

Frigidaire Dryer Stops Mid Cycle — What’s Happening

A Frigidaire dryer that stops mid-cycle is usually not showing a single fault code. Instead, the control is pausing or terminating the cycle because of a moisture-sensing issue, restricted airflow causing overheat protection, or a control, door switch, or interlock problem. The exact behavior depends on your model and whether you see blinking lights, an error code, or just a silent pause.

In Frigidaire dryers, mid-cycle stops are most often tied to sensor-dry faults, vent blockage and overheat protection, thermistor issues, or control board faults. Some units will show blinking cycle-status lights or other error indications, while others simply stop with no visible code. Because Frigidaire has multiple dryer families, the meaning depends on whether the unit pauses only in Sensor Dry mode, on all cycles, or after heating.

How to Diagnose and Fix

  1. Verify the symptom by noting whether the dryer stops only in Sensor Build or Auto Dry modes, on all cycles, or with blinking lights or an error code displayed.
  2. Unplug the dryer for 5 to 10 minutes to clear any temporary control glitches, then plug it back in and retest the cycle.
  3. Inspect and clean the entire air path including the lint screen, internal lint trap housing, exhaust duct from the dryer to the outside, and exterior vent termination for any lint buildup, kinks, or crushing.
  4. Run a timed-dry heat cycle and monitor exhaust airflow at the outside vent and internal drum temperature to confirm the dryer maintains proper airflow and does not trip on overheat protection.
  5. Locate the moisture sensor bars inside the drum (usually two metal strips on the drum back or front) and clean them with rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth, then test continuity or resistance if the model uses auto-dry sensing.
  6. Test the thermal fuse, high-limit thermostat, heater element or burner components, and thermistor for continuity and correct resistance values using a multimeter.
  7. Check the door switch and latch or interlock mechanism by manually actuating the switch and listening for a click or testing continuity to confirm the switch closes when the door is shut.
  8. If all components test good and the dryer still stops mid-cycle, inspect wiring harnesses for loose or corroded connectors and consider control board fault or intermittent failure.

Parts You Might Need

PartNotes
Thermal fuseAmazon | One-time safety fuse that opens permanently after overheat, located on the blower housing or heater assembly.
Moisture sensor barsAmazon | Metal strips inside the drum that detect dampness in Sensor Dry mode, often just need cleaning with alcohol.
Door switchAmazon | Plunger or lever switch at the door strike that signals when the door is closed.
ThermistorAmazon | Temperature sensor for the control board, should read between about 3 kΩ and 163 kΩ depending on temperature.

If your appliance also shows a code on the display, these match this problem:

When to Call a Pro

Call a professional if you are not comfortable working with electrical testing, if you have a gas dryer and suspect burner or igniter problems (gas work requires a trained technician), or if you have tested all the common parts and airflow but the dryer still stops mid-cycle. Intermittent control board faults and complex wiring issues are best diagnosed with service manuals and specialized tools.
