⚡ Quick Answer

Lint or residue on moisture sensor bars blocks dryness detection. Clean the bars inside the drum near the lint filter with a damp cloth.

Frigidaire Dryer Clothes Still Damp — What’s Happening

When your Frigidaire dryer leaves clothes damp or stops too early, the automatic dry moisture-sensing system is not reading properly. The dryer relies on metal sensor bars inside the drum to detect moisture in the fabric. If the control board cannot get a valid signal from these sensors, it cannot reliably determine when the load is dry and may end the cycle prematurely.

This symptom is often logged internally as an auto-dry sensor fault (AD code on some models), meaning the moisture sensor circuit is not providing trustworthy input to the control. The result is consistently damp laundry even after a full cycle.

Most Likely Causes

How to Diagnose and Fix

  1. Unplug the dryer for five minutes to reset the control board and clear any temporary fault.
  2. Locate the moisture sensor bars inside the drum (usually two metal strips near the lint filter opening) and clean them thoroughly with a damp cloth, then dry completely before testing.
  3. Remove and clean the lint filter, then vacuum out the filter housing and check for lint buildup inside the drum and door seal area.
  4. Disconnect and inspect the entire exhaust vent path from the dryer to the outside termination for blockage, kinks, crushing, or heavy lint accumulation, then clean or straighten as needed.
  5. Run a small test load on an automatic dry cycle and monitor whether the dryer now stops at the correct dryness level.
  6. If the symptom persists, access the moisture sensor wiring connector (typically behind the front panel or at the control board) and verify it is seated firmly with no corrosion or damage.
  7. Test the moisture sensor assembly for continuity or replace it if cleaning and connector checks do not resolve the issue.
  8. If the sensor and wiring are verified good but the dryer still leaves clothes damp, replace the main electronic control board.

When to Call a Pro

Call a technician if cleaning the sensor bars and clearing the vent system do not fix the problem, or if you are not comfortable disassembling the dryer cabinet to access wiring and internal components. A pro can test the moisture sensor circuit with a multimeter, verify the control board is processing the signal correctly, and replace the sensor or board as needed. Also call for help if you see any burnt connectors, melted wiring, or if the dryer displays additional error codes alongside the damp-clothes symptom.
