Bosch Washer Shaking and Loud — What’s Happening

When your Bosch washer is shaking excessively or making loud noises during a cycle, you are seeing abnormal movement or hearing sounds beyond the normal gentle rattle or swooshing. Bosch considers banging, clicking, knocking, bumping, or strong vibration a problem that needs attention, not a normal operating condition.

This symptom is not tied to a specific fault code in Bosch systems. Instead, it reflects a mechanical or installation issue such as an unbalanced load, improper leveling, transport bolts still in place, or worn internal components like dampers or the drain pump. The noise and shaking may occur during wash, drain, or spin depending on the underlying cause.

Most Likely Causes

How to Diagnose and Fix

  1. Identify which part of the cycle produces the noise and shaking—wash, drain, or spin—and note whether it happens with every load or only certain types.
  2. Pause the cycle and open the door to redistribute the laundry evenly around the drum, then reduce the load size if the drum is more than three-quarters full.
  3. Check that the washer is on a flat, stable surface and use a spirit level to confirm it is level side-to-side and front-to-back, then tighten the lock nuts on all four adjustable feet.
  4. Inspect the rear of the washer for transport bolts and remove any that are still installed, then fit the supplied plastic blanks or caps into the bolt holes.
  5. Check pockets before loading, then inspect the drum interior, door seal, and pump filter access for coins, buttons, or other foreign objects and remove any debris.
  6. Open the pump filter housing, check the filter and pump ports for blockages, and verify that the drain hose is not kinked or obstructed.
  7. With power off and the unit empty, manually rotate the drum and push it side-to-side to check for excessive play or weak resistance from the dampers or shock absorbers, then inspect each damper for damage or detachment.
  8. If noise persists after the above checks, inspect the drive pulley and mounting hardware for looseness or wear, and listen for bearing noise by slowly rotating the empty drum by hand.

Parts You Might Need

PartNotes
Suspension damper or shock absorberAmazon | Sold individually or in sets depending on your Bosch model; verify the exact part number for your washer.
Drain pumpAmazon | Required if the pump is jammed, making grinding noise, or not draining properly.
Drive pulleyAmazon | Replacement needed if the pulley is loose, cracked, or worn.

If your appliance also shows a code on the display, these match this problem:

When to Call a Pro

Call a professional if you have confirmed the washer is level, transport bolts are out, the load is balanced, and no foreign objects are present, but severe shaking or loud noise continues. Suspension damper and shock absorber replacement requires partial disassembly and safe handling of the heavy tub assembly. Drive pulley work and bearing diagnosis also require access to internal drive components. A qualified technician can safely inspect the suspension system, drive mechanism, and bearings, then replace worn parts to restore smooth, quiet operation.
