Samsung Washer Won’t Fill with Water — What’s Happening

A Samsung washer that won’t fill with water is experiencing a water fill fault. The machine is not detecting or achieving proper water entry into the tub. Samsung troubleshooting points first to blocked or kinked supply hoses, closed supply valves, and clogged hose filters or screens as the most common reasons for this behavior. Depending on your model, the washer may display an error code or simply fail to start the cycle.

How to Diagnose and Fix

  1. Confirm the washer has power and that you have selected a cycle that commands fill.
  2. Check that both hot and cold supply valves behind the machine are turned fully counterclockwise (open).
  3. Inspect the inlet hoses for kinks, crushing, or tight bends and straighten or reposition as needed.
  4. Turn off the supply valves, disconnect the inlet hoses from the back of the washer, and remove the small mesh screens or filters from each inlet port on the machine.
  5. Rinse the screens under running water to clear sediment or debris, then reinstall and reconnect the hoses.
  6. If the machine still will not fill, access the inlet valve and use a multimeter to test for continuity across each solenoid coil and verify the valve receives approximately 120 V AC during a fill command.
  7. If voltage is present at the valve terminals but no water enters, replace the inlet valve assembly.
  8. If no voltage reaches the valve, test the pressure sensor or water level switch and trace back to the main control board by elimination.

Parts You Might Need

PartNotes
Water inlet valve assemblyAmazon | Solenoid valve that opens to allow water into the tub.
Inlet hose mesh screensAmazon | Small filters that sit inside the inlet ports on the back of the washer.
Pressure sensor or water level switchAmazon | Senses tub fill level and signals the control board.

When to Call a Pro

Call a technician if cleaning the inlet screens and checking hoses does not restore fill, or if you are uncomfortable working with live voltage during valve testing. A pro can safely diagnose the inlet valve, pressure sensor, and control board with the correct meter and model-specific values. If the main control board is the root cause, replacement requires part programming or matching to your washer’s serial number.
