LG Washer Stops Mid Cycle — What’s Happening

An LG washer that stops mid-cycle is not a fault code by itself. It is a symptom of an underlying condition such as a door or lid lock issue, drain problem, water supply or pressure problem, overload or imbalance, or a power interruption. If the washer stops without displaying a code, treat it as a control interruption caused by a safety interlock or a failed step in the cycle.

If a code is present, the code is the real diagnostic clue. Common codes include dE or dL for door or lid not closing or locking properly, PF for power failure during the cycle, OE for drain issue or water not leaving the tub properly, IE for inlet water supply or pressure problem, UE for imbalance or overload-related spin interruption, and LE for motor overload or locked motor condition.

How to Diagnose and Fix

  1. Unplug the washer for 30 seconds, then restore power to clear transient errors.
  2. Check the display for a code (dE, dL, PF, OE, IE, UE, or LE) and note it.
  3. If it stops without draining, verify the drain pump is running, inspect the drain hose for kinks or blockage, and clean the drain pump filter or debris trap.
  4. If it stops at the start or won’t advance, verify door or lid closure and inspect the lock or latch mechanism, then test the lock or switch assembly electrically with a multimeter for continuity.
  5. If it stops while filling, confirm water taps are open, check inlet hose screens for restriction, and verify inlet valve operation and water pressure condition.
  6. If it stops during spin, rebalance the load and reduce overload, then inspect for suspension or motor-related issues if the code is LE or the tub cannot accelerate normally.
  7. If power-related, confirm outlet, breaker, and harness integrity.
  8. Replace any failed component and retest the full cycle.

Parts You Might Need

PartNotes
Door lock assemblyAmazon | Test electrically for continuity before replacing.
Drain pumpAmazon | Replace if clogged beyond cleaning or mechanically damaged.
Inlet valveAmazon | Replace if water supply is confirmed good but valve does not open.

When to Call a Pro

Call a technician if the door lock, drain pump, or inlet valve tests fail and you are not comfortable with electrical testing or component replacement. If the code is LE and motor-related issues are suspected, or if the problem recurs after cleaning the drain and verifying the door lock, professional diagnosis is recommended.
