LG Washer OE Error Code - Causes & Fix

⚡ Quick Answer

OE means your LG washer can't drain water from the tub. Check the drain hose for kinks and clean the pump filter to fix most cases.

LG Washer OE Error Code — What It Means

An OE error on your LG washer means the machine cannot drain water from the tub during the cycle. LG states the code triggers when the washer is unable to drain within the required time window. On top-load models, the code appears when the machine cannot drain for 13 minutes. The washer stops mid-cycle and displays OE to prevent overflow and protect the pump motor.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Unplug the washer and pull it away from the wall to access the rear drain hose and lower service panel.
  2. Inspect the drain hose for kinks, twists, crushing, or external blockage where it connects to the standpipe or laundry sink, then straighten or reroute the hose if needed.
  3. Open the drain pump filter access (usually a small door at the lower front), place towels on the floor, pull out the small drain plug to release residual water into a shallow pan, then unscrew and remove the filter cap.
  4. Clean the filter thoroughly by removing all lint, coins, buttons, and debris, rinse it under running water, then reinstall it securely and close the access door.
  5. Run a drain or spin-only cycle and listen for the pump motor, which should hum or run steadily. If the pump is silent or groans but water remains in the tub, the pump itself is likely failed or obstructed internally.
  6. Check internal hoses by tilting the washer back and inspecting the rubber hose between the tub outlet and the pump inlet for blockage or foreign objects if the external hose and filter are clear but drainage still fails.
  7. Replace the drain pump assembly if it does not run, runs but makes grinding noise, or cannot move water after all hoses and the filter have been cleared, then run a tub clean cycle and reduce detergent to prevent recurrence.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
LG washer drain pump assemblyAmazon | Match your model number. Most LG pumps are single-unit motor and housing assemblies.
Drain pump filter capAmazon | Order if the original is cracked or the threads are stripped after removal.
Drain hose (washer to standpipe)Amazon | Replace if the hose is split, cracked, or permanently kinked and cannot be straightened.

When to Call a Pro

Call a technician if you have drained the tub manually, cleaned the filter and hose, and the pump still will not run or the code returns immediately. Internal blockages in the pump inlet hose or a failed pump motor require disassembly and part replacement. Also call if you see water leaking from the pump area or if the washer shows additional error codes alongside OE, since those may indicate control board or wiring faults that need diagnostic tools.
