FLIR Thermal Camera Error Codes — Quick Reference
FLIR cameras report faults during startup, calibration, storage access, and detector operation. Exact wording varies by product line, but most problems fall into a few categories: battery and power issues, detector calibration errors, SD card or memory problems, and lens or shutter calibration faults.
| Error / Message | Meaning | Quick Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Camera Error 100 | Startup / internal initialization fault | Reboot camera; remove battery |
| Detector Error | Thermal sensor not initializing correctly | Allow warm-up; retry |
| Calibration Failed | Internal shutter or NUC calibration failed | Restart and let camera stabilize |
| Lens Error | Lens connection or ID issue | Reseat lens if removable |
| SD Card Error | Memory card unreadable | Reformat or replace card |
| Battery Error | Battery not recognized or low voltage | Clean contacts; replace battery |
| USB Error | Data connection problem | Reconnect cable; use FLIR software |
| Over Temp | Camera body too hot | Let unit cool before reuse |
Most Common Faults
Calibration Failed
Thermal cameras periodically run a non-uniformity correction (NUC) using an internal shutter. If the shutter sticks or the camera is powered on in an extreme temperature environment, calibration can fail. Power the camera off, let it stabilize for a few minutes at room temperature, and restart. Repeated calibration failure may indicate a shutter mechanism problem.
SD Card Error
Industrial thermal cameras live in harsh environments. SD cards fail from repeated removal, vibration, and power loss during writes. Copy off any readable files immediately, then test with a new industrial-grade SD card. Many apparent FLIR camera faults are really storage failures.
Battery Error
Clean the battery and camera contacts with isopropyl alcohol. Third-party batteries often trigger intermittent battery errors on FLIR cameras, especially when the camera warms up. Use an OEM battery pack if possible.
Detector Error
If the detector or imaging core fails to initialize, the camera may display a black image, boot loop, or an explicit detector error. A full power drain can help: remove battery, disconnect external power, wait 60 seconds, then restart. If the error persists, this is usually a service issue.
Parts Often Needed
| Part | Notes |
|---|---|
| OEM battery pack | Amazon | Third-party packs are a common problem |
| SD card | Amazon | Use industrial or high-endurance media |
| Lens assembly | Amazon | Only on removable-lens T-series models |
| USB / charging dock | Amazon | Damaged docks cause charging faults |
When to Call a Pro
Persistent detector, shutter, or calibration errors usually require FLIR service. Do not open the camera body in the field. Thermal camera calibration and detector alignment are factory procedures.
