⚡ Quick Answer

Usually a motor relay or control board fault (code E51/E52), door switch reading open (E42), or blocked airflow triggering overheat shutdown.

Electrolux Dryer Stops Mid Cycle — What’s Happening

When an Electrolux dryer stops mid cycle, it is not a single fault code but a symptom that maps to several different stored codes depending on what the machine detected. The most common stored codes are E51 (motor relay failure), E52 (motor start sensing error), E42 (door switch reading open), EF1 (ventilation blockage), or H2/B2 (power supply issue). The control board uses these codes to tell you exactly what tripped the shutdown, so pulling the stored fault code from diagnostics is the first real step.

The dryer may also stop without logging a clear code if the motor overheats from an overloaded drum, excessive mechanical drag, or restricted airflow. Loose or damaged wiring between the control board, inverter board, motor, or door switch can also interrupt operation mid cycle. On models with electronic motor control, the inverter board or main control board can fail and cut power to the drive motor even when all other systems check out.

How to Diagnose and Fix

  1. Unplug the dryer and pull the stored fault code from the diagnostic menu to identify which system triggered the shutdown.
  2. Remove the load, then spin the drum by hand to check for binding, drag, or rough bearing noise that would overload the motor.
  3. Test the door switch for continuity and inspect the latch and strike for wear or misalignment if the code points to door open or the machine stops randomly.
  4. Clean the lint filter, remove the exhaust duct, and check the full vent path for blockage or restriction that would cause overheating.
  5. With power off, inspect all wiring harnesses at the motor, inverter board, control board, and line filter for loose connectors, burnt pins, or breaks.
  6. Reduce the load size and allow the motor to cool for 30 minutes, then restart; if the dryer runs normally, investigate airflow, drag, or motor overheat conditions.
  7. Meter-test the door switch (if E42), motor circuit (if E51/E52), or inverter board connections based on the stored code and your wiring inspection.
  8. Replace only the confirmed failed component after testing the full fault path, whether that is the control board, inverter board, motor, door switch, line filter, or harness.

PartNotes
Main control board or inverter boardAmazon | Common final repair for E51/E52 motor relay and motor start faults after wiring checks pass.
Drive motorAmazon | Replace if motor windings test open, shorted, or motor fails to start after board and wiring are verified good.
Door switch or door latch assemblyAmazon | Required when door-open code E42 persists and switch fails continuity or latch is broken.
Wiring harnessAmazon | Order the specific harness (motor, inverter, or control board) if connectors are melted, pins are broken, or conductors are cut.

If your appliance also shows a code on the display, these match this problem:

When to Call a Pro

Call a technician if you are not comfortable retrieving stored fault codes, meter-testing control boards or inverter boards, or tracing multi-pin harness circuits. Professional diagnosis is also recommended when the dryer stops with no stored code, when multiple codes appear together, or when you have replaced a board or motor and the symptom persists. On compact or condensing models with complex power electronics, a tech with Electrolux-specific training and a schematic can isolate inverter, line filter, and control board faults much faster than trial replacement.
