Electrolux Dryer E64 Error Code - Causes & Fix

3 min read
⚡ Quick Answer

E64 on an Electrolux dryer means a heater-circuit fault. The most common fix is replacing a failed heating element or thermal fuse.

Electrolux Dryer E64 Error Code — What It Means

The E64 code indicates a heating circuit fault in your Electrolux dryer. The control board has detected that the heating system is not working correctly, either because the element has burned out, shorted to the housing, or because a safety device has opened the circuit. In most field repairs, this code points directly to a failed heating element. The dryer may still tumble clothes but will not produce heat, leaving loads damp at the end of the cycle.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Unplug the dryer and wait two minutes to make sure no stored voltage remains before opening any panels.
  2. Clean the entire airflow path by removing and washing the lint filter, vacuuming the lint housing and blower area, and disconnecting the exhaust vent to clear any blockages.
  3. Access the heater assembly by removing the lower front or rear panel (consult your model’s service manual for exact location) and visually inspect the heating element for broken coils, scorch marks, or the element wire touching the metal housing.
  4. Test the heating element with a multimeter set to resistance mode by removing both wire connectors and placing probes on the element terminals (a good element typically reads in the low tens of ohms, while a failed element reads open or infinite resistance).
  5. Check continuity on the thermal fuse and thermostats mounted on or near the heater housing by disconnecting each component and testing across its terminals (a healthy fuse or thermostat reads near zero ohms, while a blown fuse reads open).
  6. Inspect all wiring and terminals for heat damage, melted plastic, or loose connections, and replace any burned connectors or damaged wire segments.
  7. Replace the defective part (heating element, thermal fuse, or thermostat), reassemble the panels, restore power, and run a timed dry cycle on high heat to confirm the dryer now heats properly and the code does not return.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
Heating element assemblyAmazon | Match the part number stamped on your existing element housing or use your dryer’s model number to confirm fitment.
Thermal fuseAmazon | Single-use safety cutoff mounted on the heater or blower housing; select the correct temperature rating for your model.
Cycling thermostatAmazon | Choose the thermostat specified for your model’s heating assembly, as temperature set-points vary between dryer lines.
Wire harness or terminal kitAmazon | Use only if you find melted connectors or heat-damaged wiring at the heater assembly.

When to Call a Pro

If you are uncomfortable working with household voltage or accessing internal dryer components, call a qualified appliance technician. Also call a professional if you have replaced the heating element, thermal fuse, and thermostats but the E64 code persists, since the fault may lie in the main control board or internal wiring harness that requires diagnostic software and specialized tools to trace.
