⚡ Quick Answer

Failed icemaker assembly or a communication break between the control and icemaker is most common. Reset power and check wiring first.

Bosch Refrigerator Ice Maker Not Working — What’s Happening

When your Bosch refrigerator ice maker stops working, the refrigerator may be detecting a fault inside the icemaker circuit itself or a loss of communication between the icemaker and the control system. Bosch identifies this condition with code E02, which points to either an icemaker fault or an ice-water system control communication issue.

In practical terms, the icemaker may stop cycling, fail to fill with water, or simply go dark. The root cause can be electrical, mechanical, or supply-related. Most failures trace back to a bad icemaker assembly, loose or corroded wiring, water restrictions, or control board communication errors.

How to Diagnose and Fix

  1. Switch off power at the breaker for about five minutes, then restore power and check whether the icemaker resumes normal operation.
  2. Confirm the icemaker is enabled on the control panel and that no control lock or off setting is active.
  3. Inspect the ice bin, mold, chute, and fill tube for ice buildup or blockage and carefully thaw any frozen areas with warm air or a hairdryer.
  4. Verify the freezer temperature is holding between 0 and 5°F, the range needed for reliable ice production.
  5. Check the water supply path by confirming the shutoff valve is fully open, the supply line is not kinked or frozen, and the filter is not clogged or overdue for replacement.
  6. Test the water inlet valve with a multimeter for coil continuity (typically 200–500 ohms) and confirm at least 20 psi water pressure at the valve inlet.
  7. Inspect all wiring and connectors between the control board and icemaker for loose pins, corrosion, or visible damage and reseat or repair as needed.
  8. If water supply, wiring, and temperature all check good but the icemaker still does not cycle or produce ice, replace the icemaker assembly and retest.

When to Call a Pro

If the icemaker fault or E02 code returns after a reset and basic checks, Bosch recommends contacting service. A technician has the board-level diagnostic tools to trace communication faults and can safely probe live circuits to isolate control failures. Professional help also makes sense if you are uncomfortable working behind panels near high-voltage wiring or if you need confirmation before ordering an expensive icemaker or control board.
