Bosch Dishwasher Not Drying — What’s Happening

A Bosch dishwasher that does not dry is usually a performance complaint rather than a fault code. Bosch machines use condensation drying, where dishes cool slowly in the humid cabinet and moisture condenses on the cooler stainless steel walls, then drains away. Good drying depends on a hot enough final rinse, proper rinse aid to sheet water off dishes, correct loading so water can drain, and a cycle that finishes completely.

If your Bosch is leaving dishes wet, the machine is either not retaining enough heat for condensation or moisture is not draining off properly. You may see no error at all, or you might encounter E09 (heating circuit problem) or E24 (drainage restriction) if a component has actually failed. Most wet-dish complaints trace to rinse aid, cycle choice, or how the load was arranged.

How to Diagnose and Fix

  1. Verify the complaint by running a full normal or auto cycle and checking whether dishes are wet at the end, and note any fault codes displayed.
  2. Check the rinse aid level in the dispenser and refill if low or empty, then adjust the dispenser setting to a higher dose if dishes are still damp after the next cycle.
  3. Confirm the selected program includes adequate heat and drying time (use Auto, Normal, or a cycle labeled for better drying rather than Quick or Eco).
  4. Inspect the load for tightly nested items or bowls holding water, and verify that the items are not mostly plastic if everything stays wet.
  5. Look for standing water in the sump at cycle end, then remove and clean the filter assembly and inspect the drain hose for kinks or blockage.
  6. Check the drain pump cover for looseness and the pump itself for debris or obstructions, then clear any restrictions in the drain path.
  7. If heating is suspect, isolate power and test the heater or heat-pump circuit for continuity (normal resistance is about 16 to 20 ohms, infinite resistance means an open element), and inspect wiring and connections for damage.
  8. If heating and drainage pass basic checks, test the thermistor and control-board output to the heater, then replace the failed component identified in testing.

Parts You Might Need

PartNotes
Rinse aid dispenserAmazon | If the dispenser is cracked or not releasing rinse aid during the cycle.
Dishwasher heater or heat-pump assemblyAmazon | For models with an integrated heater or heat-pump circuit that has failed continuity or resistance testing.
Dishwasher control boardAmazon | When the heater element tests good but the board relay or output to the heater circuit is defective.
Thermistor or temperature sensorAmazon | If the machine is not regulating heat correctly and the sensor tests out of range.

If your appliance also shows a code on the display, these match this problem:

When to Call a Pro

Call a pro if you have verified rinse aid, cycle selection, and loading but dishes are still wet and you see a fault code like E09 or E24. Heating and heat-pump circuit diagnosis requires safe electrical testing with power isolated, and control-board or wiring faults are best handled by a technician with Bosch-specific training. If standing water remains after you have cleaned the filter and checked the drain hose, or if you are not comfortable testing resistance and continuity on the heater circuit, a qualified service tech can isolate the failed component and replace it correctly.
