Bosch Dishwasher E15 Error Code - Causes & Fix

3 min read
⚡ Quick Answer

E15 means water in the base pan triggered leak protection. Most likely fix: locate and repair the internal leak, then dry the base.

Bosch Dishwasher E15 Error Code — What It Means

E15 on a Bosch dishwasher means the leak-protection system has detected water in the base pan beneath the tub. When water accumulates in the base, a float or safety switch trips and stops the dishwasher to prevent flooding. This is not a false alarm in most cases. The code indicates an actual leak or overflow condition somewhere inside the machine that allowed water to escape the tub and collect below.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Disconnect power and water supply. Switch off the circuit breaker and close the water shut-off valve under the sink or at the wall before any inspection or repair.
  2. Remove the toe-kick panel and inspect the base. Pull off the lower access panel and look inside the base pan for standing water and any clues about where it came from.
  3. Tilt the dishwasher forward slightly to drain the base pan. Lay towels down, tip the unit back about 45 degrees, and let trapped water run out the front, then dry the pan thoroughly with towels or a wet-vac.
  4. Inspect all leak-prone areas systematically. Check the door gasket for tears or debris, examine hose clamps and fittings for tightness, look around the sump and pump for moisture or mineral deposits, inspect the inlet valve and its connections for seepage, and verify the drain hose is routed correctly without kinks.
  5. Repair or replace the failed component. Tighten loose clamps, replace cracked hoses, install a new door seal if torn, swap out a leaking inlet valve, or clean and reseat pump seals as needed.
  6. Verify detergent and rinse aid usage. Confirm you are using low-sudsing dishwasher detergent in the correct amount and that the rinse aid dispenser is not overfilled.
  7. Restore power and run a short test cycle. Monitor the base pan during the cycle to confirm no new water accumulates, then check that the E15 code clears and the machine completes normally.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
Door gasket / tub sealAmazon | Select the gasket that matches your Bosch model number, usually listed on the inside edge of the door.
Water inlet valveAmazon | Match the valve to your model. Check the mounting bracket and thread size to confirm fit.
Sump seal / pump seal kitAmazon | Order the seal set specific to your dishwasher’s sump assembly. Some kits include both pump and sump seals.
Internal hose and clamp setAmazon | Replacement hoses and stainless clamps are available as service kits for many Bosch models.

When to Call a Pro

If you cannot locate the leak after inspecting hoses, seals, and the inlet valve, or if the base pan continues to fill even after drying and resetting, contact a qualified technician. Bosch recommends calling support when the leak-protection system has activated. A pro can disassemble the sump, test the circulation pump seals, trace hidden cracks in the tub, and verify that the safety float switch itself is working correctly. Persistent E15 codes despite visible repairs usually mean a component deep inside the wash system has failed and requires partial teardown to access.
