F2 E1 means a stuck key or a runaway over-temperature condition. Test the keypad and the oven sensor, then replace the relay control board if needed.

Whirlpool Oven F2 E1 Error Code — What It Means

F2 E1 shows up two ways depending on the model. On many ovens it is a stuck or shorted key on the keypad. On others the control senses a runaway heat condition where the oven climbed past its safe limit.

When it is a heat runaway, a welded relay on the control board is feeding the bake or broil element nonstop. That is a safety shutdown, so treat a hot oven with F2 E1 seriously and cut the power.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. If the oven is hot and showing F2 E1, shut off the breaker right away as a safety step.
  2. Leave power off for one minute, then restore it and watch whether the code returns.
  3. Open the rear panel and measure the oven temperature sensor at the connector. It should read about 1080 ohms at room temperature.
  4. Replace the oven temperature sensor if it reads far from 1080 ohms.
  5. Inspect the bake and broil relays on the control board for melted or fused contacts.
  6. Check the keypad ribbon and each key for a stuck button.
  7. Replace the relay control board if a relay is welded, or the keypad if a key is stuck.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
Whirlpool oven temperature sensor (RTD)Amazon | Should read near 1080 ohms at 70 degrees F, replace if out of range.
Electronic oven relay control boardAmazon | Required when a bake or broil relay is welded closed.
Oven touch pad / keypadAmazon | Replace if a key is stuck on keypad-style models.

When to Call a Pro

A runaway heat condition can be a fire risk. If the oven overheats or the code returns after you replace the sensor, stop and have a technician verify the relays and board before running it again.
