TurboChef Oven Fault Codes — Quick Reference
TurboChef rapid cook ovens (Sota, Encore, i5, Bullet, and Tornado) combine microwave energy and impingement air for rapid cooking. The electronic controller displays fault codes when a condition is out of specification.
| Fault Code | Meaning | Quick Fix |
|---|---|---|
| E0 | Temperature sensor failure | Check thermocouple connector and replace |
| E1 | Cavity sensor open circuit | Replace cavity thermocouple |
| E2 | High temperature | Allow cooling, check sensor |
| E3 | Magnetron fault (microwave units) | Contact service — magnetron replacement |
| E4 | Interlock fault | Check door switches and interlocks |
| E5 | Control board communication | Replace control board |
| E6 | Blower motor fault | Check impingement blower motor |
| Fan Fault | Cooling fan failure | Check cooling fan operation |
Most Common Faults
E0 / E1 — Temperature Sensor Fault
TurboChef ovens use a Type K thermocouple to measure cavity temperature. A damaged or corroded connector is the most common cause. Disconnect the thermocouple connector at the control board. Measure thermocouple resistance — should read a few ohms (not open). If open, replace the thermocouple.
E4 — Door Interlock Fault
TurboChef microwave-combination ovens require all door interlock switches to be closed before operating. An E4 fault means one or more interlocks is not engaged. Check:
- Door closes fully and latches
- Inspect door interlock switches (primary, secondary, monitor) for damage
- Verify door hook not worn — worn hooks don’t depress interlocks fully
Safety note: Never defeat or bypass door interlock switches on microwave-equipped ovens.
E3 — Magnetron Fault
A magnetron fault on TurboChef combo units indicates microwave power generation failure. The magnetron requires replacement by a qualified technician — this is not a field serviceable item without specific training and equipment.
E6 — Blower Motor Fault
The impingement blower provides hot air jets. If the blower fails, the oven cooks unevenly and can overheat. Check the blower motor connector, run capacitor (if applicable), and motor windings.
TurboChef Preventive Maintenance
| Interval | Task |
|---|---|
| Daily | Clean catalytic converter (burn off) and cavity |
| Weekly | Clean impingement plates and air fingers |
| Monthly | Inspect door seals and interlock switches |
| Annually | Clean blower wheel, check wiring |
Parts Often Needed
| Part | Notes |
|---|---|
| Type K thermocouple | Amazon | Common sensor failure |
| Door interlock switch kit | Amazon | Replace on E4 fault |
| Blower wheel | Amazon | Clean or replace on E6 |
| Control board | Amazon | Replace on E5 fault |
Jump to Fix
- E0/E1 sensor → Check connector → Measure resistance → Replace thermocouple
- E4 interlock → Check door latch → Inspect interlock switches → Check door hooks
- E6 blower → Check motor connector → Verify power → Check for seized motor
