Most Common Faults

Replace Battery

Tripp Lite uses standard VRLA sealed lead-acid batteries across most product lines. The battery replacement interval is typically 3–5 years - sooner in warm environments. Tripp Lite provides a replacement battery finder on their website by model number. Always replace the full battery set at once, not individual cells.

Overload

Tripp Lite UPS systems deerate on battery - a 1500VA UPS may only support 900W on battery. Verify your load against both the on-line VA rating and the on-battery capacity. Remove non-critical loads from battery-protected outlets.

Bypass Active (SmartOnline)

SmartOnline SU-series double-conversion units transfer to bypass on inverter fault, overtemperature, or manual activation. Check the LCD fault log for the specific error code. The most common cause is inverter overtemperature from blocked vents or high ambient temperature.

Communication Fault

Tripp Lite SNMPWEBCARD or ENVIROSENSE network cards can fault after firmware updates or on network configuration changes. Reset the card by holding the reset button for 10 seconds. If the fault persists, update firmware via the card’s web interface.
