⚡ Quick Answer

F0012 means inverter heatsink temperature signal lost due to broken sensor wiring. Check sensor circuit and connections first.

Siemens Micromaster F0012 — What It Means

F0012 on a Siemens Micromaster 440 VFD indicates that the inverter temperature signal has been lost. This is not an overtemperature fault. The drive can no longer read the heatsink temperature because the sensor circuit has an open circuit or wire breakage. Siemens classifies this as a sensor wiring or signal problem, and the drive reacts with an OFF2 shutdown to protect itself when it cannot monitor heatsink temperature.

The fault points to a problem in the temperature sensing circuit on the inverter heatsink, not a load issue or power supply problem. The sensor or its wiring has failed, preventing the control board from receiving valid temperature data.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Power down the drive safely and lock out the incoming supply, then wait for all indicator lights to go dark and discharge capacitors per the manual.
  2. Inspect the heatsink temperature sensor wiring inside the drive enclosure for visible breaks, pinched insulation, or disconnected terminals.
  3. Check the sensor connector on the control board and the sensor itself for looseness, corrosion, or damage, and reseat all connections firmly.
  4. Test for continuity through the sensor circuit with a multimeter if you have the wiring diagram, looking for an open circuit in the sensor loop.
  5. Replace damaged wiring or connectors if you find broken conductors or failed terminations, then reassemble and restore power.
  6. Clear the fault using the drive’s reset procedure (consult the Micromaster 440 manual) and observe whether F0012 returns immediately.
  7. Contact Siemens support or a qualified drive technician if the fault persists after wiring repair, as the sensor or drive hardware will need replacement or factory service.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
Siemens Micromaster 440 heatsink temperature sensorAmazon | Replacement sensor for the inverter heatsink, consult Siemens for the correct part number for your drive model.
Internal wiring harness or connector kitAmazon | Used if the sensor connector or internal harness is damaged or broken, specific to your Micromaster frame size.

When to Call a Pro

Call a qualified VFD technician or contact Siemens support if you cannot locate visible wiring damage, if the fault returns immediately after reset, or if continuity testing shows the sensor circuit is intact but the drive still reports F0012. Sensor circuit faults that are not wiring-related typically require control board diagnostics or sensor replacement by trained personnel with access to OEM parts and schematics. Do not attempt to bypass or jumper the temperature sensor, as this will leave the drive without thermal protection and create a safety hazard.
