Scotsman HID312 Error Codes — Fault Code Diagnostic Guide

⚡ Quick Answer

Complete guide to Scotsman HID312 ice machine error codes, diagnostic display codes, common fault causes, and step-by-step repair procedures.

Scotsman HID312 Error Codes — What They Mean

The Scotsman HID312 is a self-contained cube ice machine and dispenser producing approximately 312 pounds of standard dice-style cube ice per day, with an integrated storage and dispensing unit. It is part of Scotsman’s Prodigy Elite series, which features Scotsman’s SmartBoard control system. The SmartBoard displays error codes on an LCD panel and tracks service data including cycle counts, clean cycles performed, and fault history.

CodeFault
1Long freeze — high water temperature or scale
2Short freeze — freezing too quickly (possible refrigerant overcharge or TXV fault)
3Long harvest — ice not releasing properly
4Short harvest — harvest cycle completing too quickly
5Harvest temperature not reached
6High-pressure fault
7Low-pressure fault
8Water circuit fault — float switch or inlet valve
9Freeze temperature sensor fault
10Harvest temperature sensor fault
11Bin thermostat fault
12Dispenser mechanism fault
13Communication fault — SmartBoard

Common Causes by Code

Step-by-Step Fix {#fix}

  1. Read the display — The Scotsman SmartBoard displays the fault code number and a brief description. Navigate to the fault history menu to see how frequently each code has occurred.
  2. For Code 1 (long freeze) — Enter Clean mode by pressing and holding the Clean button for 3 seconds. Add Scotsman Ice Machine Cleaner (Scotsman Part #19-0996-01) when prompted. Run the full clean cycle, then flush with fresh water.
  3. For Code 3 (long harvest) — Inspect the water curtain — it should hang straight and swing freely. Test the curtain switch by manually moving the curtain and listening for the click. If the switch doesn’t actuate, the contacts have worn or corroded.
  4. For Code 6 (high pressure) — Clean the condenser. If the condenser fan is running and the coil is clean but high pressure persists, connect manifold gauges — a refrigerant overcharge from a previous service event causes persistent high pressure without an obvious external cause.
  5. For Code 9 or 10 (sensor fault) — Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at the board connector. The Scotsman thermistor curve is documented in the service manual — compare measured resistance to the temperature-resistance chart for the ambient temperature of the machine location.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
Water curtain switchAmazon | Scotsman-specific micro-switch
Float switch / water level sensorAmazon | Check for scale before replacing

When to Call a Pro

Scotsman’s SmartBoard can be interfaced with the Scotsman Remote Monitoring system (SRM) for cloud-connected diagnostics. A certified Scotsman service agent has access to the full fault log and can remotely adjust configuration parameters. Refrigerant service requires EPA 608 certification.
