Samsung Washer dE1 Error Code — What It Means

The dE1 error code on a Samsung washer indicates a door-lock or door-closed fault. The machine has detected that the door is not fully closed or the latch is not engaging correctly, so it cannot start or continue the wash cycle. Samsung groups dE1 together with dC, DC, DC1, and dE as door-related issues.

This code does not necessarily mean the door lock assembly has failed. In most cases, something is preventing the door from closing completely or the latch from clicking into place. The washer’s control board will not allow operation until it receives a proper door-closed signal from the lock mechanism.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Open and re-close the door firmly. Push the door until you hear or feel a solid click, making sure it seats completely against the gasket and frame.
  2. Inspect the door seal and strike area. Pull back the rubber boot around the door opening and check for trapped laundry, lint, coins, or any objects wedged in the gap or around the latch mechanism.
  3. Clean the latch and gasket surfaces. Wipe away soap scum, mold, or debris from the door strike, lock tongue, and the entire perimeter of the rubber boot with a damp cloth.
  4. Power-cycle the washer. Turn the machine off, unplug it from the wall for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and restart the wash cycle to clear any transient fault.
  5. Check the door boot for folds or damage. Run your hand around the inside of the rubber gasket to make sure it is not folded inward or torn in a way that prevents the door from sitting flush.
  6. Test the door lock assembly. If the error persists after cleaning and resetting, examine the door lock housing and wiring connector for visible damage, loose pins, or corrosion.
  7. Replace the door lock or strike if defective. When the door closes physically but the machine still reports dE1, swap the door lock assembly or repair the strike plate as needed, following your model’s service instructions.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
Door lock assemblyAmazon | The most commonly replaced component for persistent dE1 faults when the door physically closes but the lock does not engage or signal.
Door strike or latch plateAmazon | Required if the metal or plastic catch that the lock hooks onto is bent, cracked, or missing.
Door boot gasketAmazon | Needed only if the rubber seal is torn, warped, or permanently deformed and prevents the door from seating properly.

When to Call a Pro

Call a qualified appliance technician if the dE1 error returns immediately after you have confirmed the door closes fully, cleaned all latch surfaces, and power-cycled the washer. Persistent door-lock faults can involve wiring harness issues, control board communication problems, or mechanical misalignment that requires disassembly and diagnostic tools. A technician can test the door lock circuit, verify proper voltage signals, and replace the lock assembly or strike hardware under your model’s specifications. Professional service is also recommended if you are uncomfortable working with electrical connectors or removing the front panel to access the lock mechanism.
