⚡ Quick Answer

dC1 means the door isn't fully closed or the lock mechanism has failed. Most often fixed by reseating the door or replacing the lock.

Samsung Washer dC1 Error Code — What It Means

The dC1 or DC1 error code on a Samsung washer indicates a door lock or door closure fault. The machine has detected that the door is not properly closed, the latch is not engaging, or the door lock mechanism is not confirming that it has secured the door. This is not a drain, water fill, or motor error. The washer will not start or continue a cycle until the door lock circuit confirms the door is safely latched and locked.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Unplug the washer from the wall outlet and wait two minutes to discharge any residual power before beginning work.
  2. Open and firmly close the door again, making sure it clicks fully into place and the latch tongue is seated in the strike.
  3. Inspect the door opening, gasket, and latch area closely for any clothing, lint, detergent residue, or foreign objects, and remove anything that could prevent full closure.
  4. Check the door strike and latch hardware on both the door and the frame for cracks, looseness, or misalignment, and tighten or realign as needed.
  5. Locate the door lock assembly (usually behind the front panel or inside the door frame) and verify that the wiring connector is fully seated and the harness is not pinched or damaged.
  6. If the door closes correctly and the connector is secure but the code persists, replace the door lock assembly with a Samsung OEM part for your model.
  7. Reassemble the panels, plug the washer back in, close the door, and run a short test cycle to confirm the dC1 code is cleared and the door locks properly.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
Door lock assemblyAmazon | Primary replacement part for dC1 faults when the door closes but the lock does not confirm. Match your model number for the correct assembly.
Door latch strikeAmazon | Plastic or metal strike on the door or frame. Replace if cracked, broken, or worn so the latch cannot engage the lock.
Wiring harness connector (door lock)Amazon | Only needed if the connector or harness is damaged, corroded, or broken. Often available as part of the lock assembly.

When to Call a Pro

If you have unplugged the machine, confirmed the door closes firmly, cleared all obstructions, and checked the wiring connector, but the dC1 code remains even after you have replaced the door lock assembly, the fault may be in the main control board lock-sense circuit or a model-specific wiring path. At that point, call a qualified Samsung appliance technician with the proper service manual and diagnostic tools for your exact model. Also call a pro if you are not comfortable disassembling the front panel or working around the door gasket and lock hardware.
