Samsung Dishwasher oE Error Code - Causes & Fix

oE means over-level water detected. Usually caused by a blocked filter or drain hose stopping water from draining out properly.

Samsung Dishwasher oE Error Code — What It Means

The oE code (sometimes displayed as OC or 0C) is Samsung’s over-level water error. It means the dishwasher has detected too much water in the tub. In most cases this does not mean too much water is flowing in, but rather that the machine cannot drain water out fast enough or at all. Samsung groups this fault with drainage problems and blockages that prevent the unit from emptying correctly. The water level sensor or pressure switch then reports the high-water condition and triggers the fault code.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Reset the dishwasher by unplugging it or turning off the breaker for three to five minutes, then run a drain cycle to see if the code clears.
  2. Check for standing water in the tub and confirm whether the dishwasher drains normally during a cycle or drain-only mode.
  3. Remove and clean the filter assembly, including the fine filter and coarse filter, removing all food debris, grease, and foreign objects from the sump area.
  4. Inspect the drain hose for kinks, loops above the connection point, and internal blockages, and check the drain connection at the sink or garbage disposal for clogs.
  5. Verify the dishwasher is level front-to-back and side-to-side using a spirit level, and adjust the feet if needed to prevent water from pooling.
  6. Examine the water-level sensor circuit by locating the pressure sensor (usually near the base or side wall) and inspecting the small air hose connected to it for blockage or disconnection.
  7. Run a test cycle after cleaning and repositioning all components, and contact a Samsung service center if the oE code returns despite a clear drain path and clean filter.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
Samsung dishwasher filter assemblyAmazon | Order the kit matching your exact model number, includes fine and coarse filters.
Drain hoseAmazon | Universal or OEM replacement if the original is cracked, kinked permanently, or clogged solid.
Water level pressure sensorAmazon | Model-specific part, verify part number from your service label before ordering.
Water inlet valveAmazon | Replace only if testing confirms the valve does not close or if recommended by Samsung diagnostics.

When to Call a Pro

If the oE code persists after you have cleaned the filter, sump, and drain hose and confirmed the dishwasher is level, the fault is likely in the water-level sensing circuit, pressure sensor, or internal wiring. Samsung recommends contacting their service center at that point. Also call a pro if you are uncomfortable removing the lower access panel, testing electrical components with a multimeter, or if you find water leaking from the base during your inspection. Technicians have model-specific service manuals with the correct sensor specs and can replace the case brake assembly or water matrix if your model uses one.
