Maytag Washer LD Error Code — What It Means

LD stands for long drain. The washer detected that pumping the water out is taking too long, so it stops to avoid leaving a tub full of water. It is the same condition as F9E1 on many models.

The cause is a blockage in the drain path or a weak or failed drain pump. A clogged filter and a stuck pump impeller are the two most common findings.

Step-by-Step Fix

1. Cut the power. Unplug the washer before opening any panel since the tub still holds water.
2. Clean the drain filter. Set a pan and towel underneath, open the filter, and clear all lint and debris.
3. Check the drain hose. Pull the hose and look for kinks or trapped items, then confirm it is not jammed too far down the standpipe.
4. Inspect the pump impeller. Shine a light into the pump and remove anything caught at the impeller.
5. Run a drain and spin. Plug back in and start a drain-and-spin to see if the water now clears.
6. Listen to the pump. A loud hum with no draining points to a seized or dead pump.
7. Replace the drain pump. Match the pump to your model number, reconnect the hoses and harness, and test a cycle.
