Manitowoc Indigo Error Codes — Quick Reference
Manitowoc Indigo series ice machines store faults in the control board and display them on the Indigo touchscreen or service diagnostics. Common codes relate to safety limits, freeze time, harvest time, thermistors, water level, and refrigeration performance.
| Code | Meaning | Quick Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Safety Limit 1 | Long freeze cycle | Clean condenser; check water flow |
| Safety Limit 2 | Long harvest cycle | Check hot gas valve and curtain |
| Safety Limit 3 | Repeated refrigeration fault | Check charge and TXV |
| Water Fault | Low or no water | Check inlet valve and screen |
| Bin Switch Fault | Bin control open | Inspect curtain/bin switch |
| Probe Fault | Sensor out of range | Test and replace sensor |
Most Common Codes
Safety Limit 1: Long Freeze Cycle
The machine needed too long to freeze a batch. Dirty condensers, weak water pressure, low refrigerant, or scale on the evaporator are the usual causes. Start with condenser cleaning and a full descale.
Safety Limit 2: Long Harvest Cycle
Harvest is taking too long, usually because the hot gas valve isn’t opening fully, the evaporator is scaled, or the water curtain isn’t opening cleanly. Inspect the curtain magnets and pins.
Water Fault
The trough isn’t filling properly. Check the inlet screen, water valve, and supply pressure. Manitowoc units are sensitive to scale on the float switch and reservoir sensors.
Probe Fault
The thermistor or probe reported out-of-range temperature. Disconnect and ohm the sensor against the Manitowoc service chart before replacing the board.
Bin Switch Fault
The control thinks the bin is full or the curtain is open. Verify the curtain closes all the way and the magnetic bin switch is aligned.
When to Call a Pro
If Indigo safety limits return immediately after cleaning and descaling, the issue is often sealed-system related. A refrigeration technician should check charge, compressor performance, and TXV operation.
