Error code 8 on a Manitowoc ice machine (Indigo series, NEO series) indicates an ice thickness sensor fault. The ice thickness probe (a metal probe suspended in front of the evaporator) is used to detect when ice has grown to the correct thickness. When the ice bridge contacts the probe, the control board initiates the harvest cycle. Error code 8 means the probe circuit has an open circuit, short circuit, or the probe is so coated with scale that it cannot make proper electrical contact with the ice.
