LG Washer Leaking Water — What’s Happening

When you see water pooling under or around your LG washer, the machine is not displaying a specific error code for leaks. Water leaks are visible symptoms that typically point to a failed seal, loose connection, or cracked hose somewhere in the supply or drain path. LG identifies the most common visible leak points as the inlet hoses, drain hose, rubber washers at hose connections, inlet valve filters, and the drain area or overflow path.

A leak is different from an IE (water inlet error) code, which means the tub is not filling quickly enough. If you see IE on the display, the washer is not getting enough water in, not leaking water out. This guide addresses actual water leaking onto the floor, which requires inspecting the plumbing connections, hoses, seals, and internal components for cracks, wear, or blockage that allows water to escape during fill, wash, or drain.

How to Diagnose and Fix

  1. Verify the symptom by running a fill cycle and watching for active drips or puddles at the back, bottom, or front of the washer.
  2. Turn off both hot and cold supply taps and unplug the washer before you start inspecting connections.
  3. Pull the washer away from the wall and inspect both inlet hoses for cracks, bulges, kinks, or wet spots at the wall and washer ends.
  4. Unscrew each inlet hose from the back of the washer and check the rubber washer inside the female fitting for wear, cracks, or missing pieces.
  5. Remove and clean the inlet filter screens on the back of the washer where the hoses connect to catch any debris that might block the valve or cause uneven sealing.
  6. Check the drain hose for cracks, loose clamps, or installation higher than 53 inches above the floor, and confirm the standpipe or sink drain is not clogged.
  7. On front-load models, open the door and inspect the rubber boot for tears, mold buildup, or gaps in the seal where it clamps to the tub and door frame.
  8. If no external leak is found, tilt the washer back or remove the lower front panel to inspect the drain pump, filter housing, and internal hose connections for wetness or damage, then run a test cycle and watch for active leaks under load.

Parts You Might Need

PartNotes
Water inlet hose rubber washersAmazon | Flat rubber seals that fit inside hose couplings at the wall and washer.
Water supply hoses (inlet hoses)Amazon | Reinforced rubber or braided stainless hoses, typically sold in pairs with washers included.
Water inlet valve assemblyAmazon | Electric valve on the back of the washer that controls hot and cold fill; replace if housing is cracked or valve leaks at the solenoid ports.
Drain hoseAmazon | Corrugated plastic hose from the pump to the standpipe or drain, replace if cracked or split.

When to Call a Pro

Call a technician if you cannot locate the leak after inspecting all external hoses and connections, if water is pooling inside the cabinet from an internal component like the tub seal or pump, or if the leak only appears during spin and you suspect a bearing or tub problem. A pro can pressure-test the tub, replace internal seals, and diagnose control or pressure-switch faults that might cause overflow. Also call if you are not comfortable tilting or disassembling the washer to access the pump or internal hoses.
