LG Dishwasher Main Control Board Replacement — What This Part Does
The main electronic control board is the dishwasher’s computer. It reads cycle selections from the user interface, then sends 120 VAC power signals to the circulation pump, diverter motor, drain pump, and heating element at the correct times in each wash cycle. The board also monitors sensors and throws fault codes when a component circuit does not respond as expected.
Boards fail when relay contacts weld or burn out, solder joints crack from heat cycling, or voltage spikes damage the circuitry. When the board stops sending the commanded 120 VAC output to the diverter motor or circulation pump, you will see an nE error code or the spray system will not run even though the motor itself tests good.
Signs It Needs Replacing
- nE error code on the display The dishwasher shows nE and will not start a wash cycle or stops mid-cycle, indicating a spray circulation or diverter motor control fault.
- Spray arms do not rotate during wash Water enters the tub but the lower and upper spray arms stay still because the board is not powering the diverter motor.
- No power to diverter motor at board connector During diagnostic mode, you measure 0 VAC at the board’s motor output connector when it should be sending 120 VAC.
- Dishwasher will not start any cycle Buttons light up and respond, but pressing Start does nothing and no pumps or motors activate.
- Intermittent faults that clear and return The nE code appears randomly across cycles, even after you have verified the diverter motor resistance is in the 2,700 to 4,000 ohm range and wiring is tight.
- Burnt smell or visible scorch marks on the board You see discolored solder joints, melted relay housings, or smell burnt electronics when you open the door and pull the control panel.
How to Replace It
- Unplug the dishwasher from the wall outlet or switch off the dedicated circuit breaker at your electrical panel.
- Turn off the water supply valve under the sink that feeds the dishwasher inlet line.
- Remove the screws around the perimeter of the door’s inner panel and lift off the front control-panel cover to expose the control board mounted behind the user interface.
- Take a photo of every wire harness plug on the old board so you have a color and position reference for reinstallation.
- Unplug each wire harness connector from the old control board by pressing the locking tab and pulling straight out.
- Remove the mounting screws or clips that hold the board to the door frame or control-panel bracket, then lift the old board free.
- Position the new control board on the same mounting points and secure it with the original screws or clips.
- Reconnect each wire harness to the matching connector on the new board, using your reference photo to confirm every plug is seated and locked.
- Reinstall the control-panel cover and secure all perimeter screws, then restore water supply and electrical power and run a short test cycle to verify the nE code is gone and spray arms rotate.

When to Call a Pro
If you measure 120 VAC at the board output during a commanded diagnostic test but the diverter motor still will not run and its resistance reads open or far outside 2,700 to 4,000 ohms, the motor is bad and you should replace it instead of the board. If you are uncomfortable working with live 120 VAC circuits during testing, or if the nE code persists after board replacement and you need to trace wiring or test the diverter position switch, call a qualified appliance technician to complete diagnosis and repair.
