KitchenAid Range F9 Error Code - Causes & Fix

3 min read
⚡ Quick Answer

F9 or F9 E0 means your KitchenAid range detected an electrical supply or wiring fault. Check for swapped L2 and N wires first.

KitchenAid Range F9 Error Code — What It Means

The F9 or F9 E0 code on your KitchenAid range indicates the control board has detected a line-voltage or wiring fault. KitchenAid groups these codes together as an electrical supply issue. The manufacturer states this code most often appears when the appliance is wired incorrectly at the home electrical supply or at the hard-wire connection point behind the range.

The code can also appear after unexpected power-supply line noise during an outage, after a voltage transient, or if you pressed any keys during the control’s 10-second startup delay. KitchenAid specifically highlights that the L2 and neutral (N) conductors may be swapped at the connection, which is the most common wiring error that triggers F9.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Turn off power at the breaker for the range and wait one full minute to allow the control board to discharge and reset, then restore power and observe for one minute.
  2. Wait 10 seconds before touching any keys after power is restored so the control completes its startup sequence without interference.
  3. Verify the hard-wire connection at the terminal block on the back of the range by turning off the breaker again, removing the rear access panel, and inspecting that L1, L2, and N are correctly terminated per the installation diagram on the range.
  4. Check that L2 and neutral are not swapped at the terminal block, because this is the most common wiring error KitchenAid identifies for F9.
  5. Inspect all wire terminations for tightness, corrosion, or damage, and tighten any loose connections or replace damaged hardware.
  6. Test the range under normal operation after the reset to confirm the code does not return, checking both surface burners and the oven.
  7. If the code persists after wiring checks, turn off power, document your findings, and contact a qualified electrician to verify the home electrical supply and the circuit breaker feeding the range.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
Terminal block and wire connectorsAmazon | Replace if terminals are corroded, cracked, or wire strands are damaged at the connection point.
Range electronic control boardAmazon | Replace only after a qualified electrician verifies the supply wiring is correct and the code still returns.

When to Call a Pro

Call a qualified electrician if the F9 code returns after you have reset power and verified the terminal-block connections, or if the range was recently installed and you are not confident tracing L1, L2, and neutral at the connection. KitchenAid explicitly recommends professional electrical verification when the code persists. Call an appliance technician to replace the control board only after an electrician confirms the supply voltage and wiring are correct and the fault remains. Do not attempt live-voltage diagnostics yourself.
