⚡ Quick Answer

Most leaks come from a worn door gasket or a failed pump seal. Locate the leak source, inspect the door seal and pump area, and replace the damaged component.

Kenmore Dishwasher Leaking — What’s Happening

A Kenmore dishwasher leaking is a symptom, not a fault code. The water source depends on where you see it pooling. If water appears at the front or bottom of the door during or after a cycle, the door gasket, dispenser gasket, or dispenser latch grommet is usually to blame. If the leak is underneath the unit or around the tub base, common sources include the pump and pump seal, water inlet valve, drain hose, or recirculation hose.

Some models also leak from the vent assembly or vent gasket, which can look like a door seal problem even when the door seal is fine. The key is to identify exactly where the water is coming from before ordering parts.

How to Diagnose and Fix

  1. Disconnect power and shut off the water supply to the dishwasher before inspecting any components.
  2. Identify the leak location by running a short cycle and watching where water first appears (front door, under the tub, valve area, or vent area).
  3. Inspect the door area by checking the door gasket for tears, flattening, missing sections, or poor seating, and examine the dispenser cover, lever, and body for cracks or damaged grommet and gasket parts if the leak is at the lower front.
  4. Remove the lower access panel or kickplate and inspect underneath the dishwasher.
  5. Check the water inlet valve body for cracks or visible seepage at the valve itself.
  6. Inspect the drain hose and recirculation hose for cracks, wear, blockage, or loose connections at both ends.
  7. Inspect the pump area and pump seal for visible leakage or moisture around the pump housing.
  8. If the leak appears near the vent area, inspect the vent gasket and vent assembly for damage, and replace the gasket or the vent component if needed.

When to Call a Pro

Call a pro if you cannot safely access the underside of the dishwasher, if the leak source is not obvious after inspection, or if the pump or inlet valve replacement requires disconnecting multiple hoses and electrical connections you are not comfortable handling. Kenmore-branded dishwashers are built by different manufacturers depending on the model family, so some internal layouts vary and may require service documentation you do not have. A qualified appliance technician has the correct parts cross-reference and can run a test cycle while monitoring the exact leak path to confirm the repair.
