Most Common Henny Penny Faults and Fixes {#fix}

E-1 — Thermocouple Fault

The oil temperature thermocouple has failed or its connection is open. Test thermocouple millivoltage output at temperature. Replace if out of spec or open circuit.

E-2 / E-4 — High Temperature / Hi-Limit

Oil exceeded safe temperature or the mechanical hi-limit tripped. Do not restart. Check thermostat, gas valve, and heat input system before resetting. E-4 requires manual reset at the hi-limit device after cooling.

E-3 — Ignition Failure

Gas ignition failed within the trial-for-ignition period. Check gas supply, pilot flame (if applicable), igniter operation, and gas valve. Gas pressure typically 3.5-5” WC for natural gas.

E-5 — Pressure Switch (Pressure Fryers)

The lid pressure switch didn’t confirm correct lid seal or pressure. Check lid gasket condition and seating. Verify pressure switch operation.
