⚡ Quick Answer

Usually a burned-out bulb or failed LED module. Replace the bulb or module first, then test the door switch for continuity.

Frigidaire Refrigerator Light Not Working — What’s Happening

A Frigidaire refrigerator light not working is a symptom that the interior lamp circuit is open, the bulb or LED module has failed, the door switch is not closing the circuit, the socket has bad contact, or the light is being controlled by a board or door UI on newer designs. The light should turn on when the door opens, and if it does not, the problem is usually in one of four places: the bulb or module, the door switch, the socket or wiring, or the control board.

On models with a simple incandescent or LED lamp, the door switch removes power when the door closes, so a failed switch or open circuit can make the light appear dead. On some newer designs, the interior light is controlled through a user interface or control board, so the issue can be downstream of the switch.

How to Diagnose and Fix

  1. Unplug the refrigerator before any disassembly or component replacement.
  2. Open the door and verify whether all interior lights are out or only one location is affected.
  3. Inspect the bulb or LED module and replace it with the correct model-specific part if it appears failed or to rule it out with a known-good swap.
  4. Test the door switch for continuity with a multimeter (a good switch should show 0 to 1 ohm when pressed on a simple 2-terminal design).
  5. Check for voltage at the light socket with the door open using a multimeter (you should see approximately 120 volts if the switch and wiring are good).
  6. Inspect the socket contacts for corrosion or weak spring tension and replace the socket if contact is poor.
  7. If the model uses an LED light board, verify the board is receiving voltage and replace the board if it is powered but does not illuminate.
  8. If the UI lights work but the fresh-food light does not, trace wiring and neutral connections or suspect a board-controlled output fault.

When to Call a Pro

Call a technician if you have verified the bulb, socket, and door switch are all good but still have no light, or if testing reveals no voltage at the socket and you are not comfortable tracing 120-volt wiring inside the cabinet. On models with LED light boards or UI-controlled lighting, a pro can diagnose whether the failure is in the board, the door interface, or the harness between them.
