Electrolux Washer EF1 Error Code - Causes & Fix

3 min read
⚡ Quick Answer

EF1 means your Electrolux washer can't drain properly. Clean the drain filter first, then check the hose for kinks or blockages.

Electrolux Washer EF1 Error Code — What It Means

The EF1 code on an Electrolux washing machine signals a drain fault. The control board has detected restricted or failed draining during the spin cycle. This is not an electrical error but a water-flow problem. The machine cannot evacuate water quickly enough, so it stops the cycle and displays EF1.

Electrolux support documentation ties EF1 directly to blocked or restricted drain components: a clogged drain filter, a kinked or blocked drain hose, or an obstructed drain pump. The code tells you the washer sees insufficient water removal, and you need to find and clear the restriction in the drain path.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Power off the washer and unplug it from the wall before you open any service panels or touch internal components.
  2. Locate and open the drain-filter access door, usually at the front lower corner, and place towels beneath it to catch residual water.
  3. Remove and clean the drain filter by twisting it counterclockwise, pulling out all lint and foreign objects, rinsing it under running water, and checking the housing cavity for debris.
  4. Inspect the drain hose from the back of the machine to the standpipe or laundry sink, straightening any kinks, checking for internal blockage, and confirming the hose rises no higher than the manufacturer recommends.
  5. Check the drain pump by accessing the sump area (often through the filter opening or a rear service panel), spinning the impeller by hand to confirm it turns freely, and removing any trapped items.
  6. Run a drain or spin-only cycle with the filter reinstalled and the hose clear to verify the fault clears and the pump evacuates water normally.
  7. Replace the drain pump assembly if the motor hums but does not spin, makes grinding noises, or fails to pump after you have confirmed the filter and hose are completely clear.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
Drain filter / lint trapAmazon | Clean first. Replace only if the threads are stripped or the seal is cracked.
Drain hoseAmazon | Replace if kinked permanently, split, or blocked beyond clearing. Match the original diameter.
Drain pump assemblyAmazon | Required if the motor is seized, noisy, or not pumping after the system is clear. Verify your model number for the correct pump.

When to Call a Pro

If you have cleaned the filter, cleared the hose, and verified the pump spins freely but EF1 returns immediately, the pump motor or the pressure-switch system may have failed. A technician can test pump voltage, check the pressure sensor, and confirm the wiring harness is intact. Call a pro if you are uncomfortable tilting the washer to access the pump, if water continues to pool in the drum after every step, or if the error alternates with other fault codes that suggest a control-board issue.
