Bosch Washer E30 Error Code - Causes & Fix

⚡ Quick Answer

E30 on a Bosch washer signals a drainage fault. Most often caused by a blocked pump filter, kinked drain hose, or clogged drain pipe.

Bosch Washer E30 Error Code — What It Means

The E30 error code (sometimes displayed as E:30 or E:30-80) on Bosch washers indicates a drainage system fault. The washer is unable to evacuate water properly due to a blockage, restriction, or installation problem in the drain path. Bosch links this code to a blocked or kinked drain hose, a clogged household drain pipe, a blocked drain pump, or improper outlet hose installation.

This is a mechanical drainage issue rather than an electronic fault. In most cases, the washer has detected that water is not leaving the tub at the expected rate. The machine will stop mid-cycle and display the code to prevent overflow or further operation until the drain path is cleared.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Power off and disconnect the washer from the electrical supply for at least 30 seconds, then restore power to attempt a reset as Bosch recommends for recurring faults.
  2. Check for standing water in the tub and note whether the washer drains slowly, not at all, or makes unusual noises during the drain cycle to confirm the fault is drainage-related.
  3. Inspect the entire drain hose from the washer to the standpipe or sink connection, looking for kinks, crush points, clogs, and verifying the hose does not exceed 39 inches in height at any point.
  4. Locate and clean the drain pump filter by opening the service panel at the front lower corner of the washer, placing towels to catch residual water, unscrewing the filter cap, and removing all lint, debris, and foreign objects from the filter and pump cavity.
  5. Check the pump impeller manually by reaching into the pump cavity (with power disconnected) and rotating the impeller by hand to confirm it turns freely and is not jammed by thread, hair, or small objects.
  6. Test the household drain connection by disconnecting the washer drain hose from the standpipe and running a drain cycle into a bucket to isolate whether the restriction is in the washer or the house plumbing.
  7. Reassemble, reconnect, and run a drain or spin cycle to verify the fault is cleared. If the E30 code returns after confirming the drain path is clear, the drain pump assembly or its wiring is the likely next component to replace.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
Bosch washer drain pump assemblyAmazon | Replace if the pump will not run, hums without pumping, or the fault persists after clearing all obstructions.
Bosch washer drain hoseAmazon | Replace if the hose is kinked, cracked, or internally clogged and cannot be cleared.
Bosch washer drain pump filter capAmazon | Replace if the filter housing or cap threads are damaged and will not seal properly after cleaning.

When to Call a Pro

Call a qualified appliance technician if the E30 code returns after you have cleaned the pump filter, confirmed the drain hose is clear and properly installed, and verified the household drain is not restricted. A professional can test the drain pump electrically, inspect the pressure sensor and control board connections, and replace the pump assembly or related components with the correct part for your model. Also contact support if you are uncomfortable accessing the pump filter, if there is evidence of a leak around the pump area, or if the washer will not power on after a reset attempt.
