Bosch E305 Error Code - Causes & Fix

3 min read
⚡ Quick Answer

E305 means lost communication between control boards. Most common fix: power off at breaker for 5 minutes, then restore power.

Difficulty Intermediate (DIY)
Est. time 15-60 min
Tools Multimeter , nut driver, screwdrivers

Bosch E305 Error Code — What It Means

The E305 error code indicates a communication or interface connection fault between the oven’s control electronics. Specifically, the user interface or control module has lost communication with the TCM (Thermal Control Module) or a baseplate connection is not being established correctly. This is an electronics interconnect problem, not a heating element or sensor failure. The oven’s control system has detected that the normal data exchange between boards is interrupted or absent.

Common Causes

Step-by-Step Fix

  1. Power off the oven at the circuit breaker or unplug it completely, not just using the front panel control, and wait a full 5 to 10 minutes to allow the control boards to fully reset and discharge.
  2. Restore power and check whether the E305 code reappears during startup or normal operation. If the code is gone and the oven functions normally, the fault was likely a transient glitch.
  3. Inspect the door alignment, latch, and hinges for any obstruction, damage, or misalignment that could be contributing to the error, and make sure the door closes fully and smoothly.
  4. Open the control panel access (with power off and disconnected) and visually inspect all wiring harnesses and connectors between the user interface board, main control module, and TCM for loose plugs, corrosion, frayed wires, or signs of moisture.
  5. Reseat all connectors firmly and check for any visible damage to pins or sockets. If moisture is present, dry the affected area thoroughly and inspect seals or gaskets for damage.
  6. If the code persists after these checks, the fault is most likely in the user interface board, main control board, TCM, or the interconnect harness. Test or replace each component in turn, starting with the simplest and least expensive (harness and connectors), then the user interface, then the control board or TCM.
  7. Document the repair and monitor the oven over the next few cycles to confirm the communication fault does not return.

Parts Often Needed

PartNotes
Bosch oven user interface board / control panelAmazon | Verify your exact model number before ordering, as interface boards are model-specific.
Bosch oven main control board / moduleAmazon | Match the part number to your oven’s serial plate or service label.
Bosch oven TCM / thermal control moduleAmazon | Required if diagnostics confirm the TCM is not responding on the communication bus.
Wiring harness or baseplate interconnect cableAmazon | Order only if visible damage or corrosion is found on the existing harness.

When to Call a Pro

Call a qualified appliance technician if the E305 code returns after a full power reset and you are not comfortable opening the control panel or working with live or line-voltage wiring. Diagnosis of communication faults between control boards requires multimeter testing and sometimes specialized knowledge of the specific board pinouts and protocols. If you find moisture intrusion or suspect a board-level component failure, professional replacement and testing will save time and avoid further damage to the oven’s electronics.
