Bosch Dishwasher Upper Rack Roller Replacement — What This Part Does

The upper rack roller or wheel assembly mounts to each side of the upper dish rack and rides along the side rails so you can pull the rack in and out smoothly. Bosch lists these under the “Racks & rack wheels” parts category. Over time the plastic wheels crack, the axle clips break, or the hub wears out from daily loading cycles and track friction. When that happens the rack binds, tips, or comes off the rail completely.

Signs It Needs Replacing

How to Replace It

  1. Unplug the dishwasher or switch off the circuit breaker, then turn off the water supply valve under the sink.
  2. Open the dishwasher door fully and pull the upper rack straight out until it stops or lifts off the rails (some racks lift at the end of travel, others slide completely out).
  3. Flip the rack upside down on a towel and locate the broken or missing wheel on the side rail mount.
  4. If a damaged wheel is still attached, grip the wheel firmly and pull straight out to release the axle clip from the rack mount hole.
  5. Align the new wheel assembly axle with the mounting hole on the rack frame and push straight in until you hear or feel the clip snap into place.
  6. Tug the wheel to confirm it is locked in and spins freely without wobbling or pulling out.
  7. Repeat the process on the other side if both wheels are damaged or missing (replace in pairs for even wear if one has failed).
  8. Turn the rack right-side up and slide or lower it back onto the side rails inside the dishwasher, then push and pull the rack to verify smooth travel over the full range of motion.
  9. Restore power at the breaker and turn the water supply back on, then run a short rinse cycle to confirm the rack stays on the rails and rolls normally.

When to Call a Pro

This is a straightforward snap-in replacement that most homeowners can handle with no tools. Call a tech if the rack rails themselves are bent or broken, if the rack frame is cracked at the wheel mount, or if you cannot identify the correct replacement wheel for your model. If the door springs or hinge feel loose or the door won’t stay open during the repair, have a pro adjust or replace those components at the same time.
