Bosch Dishwasher Buttons Not Working — What’s Happening

When your Bosch dishwasher buttons stop responding, you’re seeing a symptom rather than a specific error code. If the display is lit but some or all buttons do nothing, the fault is usually in the touchpad, control panel, or main control board that interprets button signals. If the buttons are nonresponsive because of Child Lock, a door that isn’t latched, or a temporary lockup, Bosch treats that as a functional condition rather than a component failure.

If the unit responds after a power reset, the issue was likely a latched state in the electronics rather than a hard part failure. Bosch’s own troubleshooting advises checking reset, power supply, Child Lock, door closure, and button-area cleanliness before moving to component-level diagnosis.

How to Diagnose and Fix

  1. Turn the dishwasher off, then cut power at the circuit breaker or unplug the unit for at least 5 minutes to clear any control lockup.
  2. Restore power and check whether the buttons respond. If they do, the issue was a temporary glitch.
  3. Check your owner’s manual for the Child Lock deactivation sequence (often holding a specific button or combination for a few seconds) and clear it if active.
  4. Open and close the door firmly to confirm the latch engages. Listen for a click and verify the door is flush. If the latch is loose or broken, repair or replace the latch assembly.
  5. Inspect the button area for moisture, detergent film, or debris. Wipe gently with a slightly damp cloth, then dry completely and retest.
  6. If the display is on but buttons still fail, remove the outer door panel and check the ribbon cable or harness connection between the touchpad and control board. Reseat any loose connectors.
  7. Test the touchpad assembly for continuity or consult wiring diagrams to measure voltage supply from the control board to the user interface.
  8. Replace the touchpad assembly if it tests faulty. Only replace the main control board after confirming the user interface and interconnects are good, since control boards are frequently misdiagnosed.

Parts You Might Need

PartNotes
Bosch dishwasher touchpad / user interfaceAmazon | Often sold as a complete touchpad or touchpad-control-panel assembly when the membrane is not available separately.
Bosch dishwasher main control boardAmazon | Verify the touchpad and wiring first, since control boards are commonly replaced unnecessarily.
Bosch dishwasher door latch assemblyAmazon | Required if the latch does not engage or the door switch fails to signal a closed door.

If your appliance also shows a code on the display, these match this problem:

When to Call a Pro

Call a technician if a reset and Child Lock check don’t restore function and you’re not comfortable opening the door panel to inspect wiring or test components with a multimeter. Control-board and touchpad diagnosis requires interpreting voltage and continuity readings, and misdiagnosis can lead to unnecessary parts expense. A qualified tech will test the user interface and its connections before replacing the control board.
